Evansville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.Red Shoe Luncheon

MAY 3, 2023

Dear Supporter:

The Evansville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are pleased to announce the Red Shoe Luncheon, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11:30 am. The event will be held at Venue 812, 1401 N. Boeke Road, Evansville, IN 47715.

The Red Shoe Luncheon will honor women in the Evansville community who are leading in areas that support Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s mission and the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust – Economic Development; Educational Development; International Awareness and Involvement; Physical and Mental Health; and Political Awareness and Involvement. In addition to recognizing outstanding women in the community, the event includes a scrumptious meal and entertainment.

Founded in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. The Evansville Alumnae Chapter was chartered on April 22, 1978, and this year marks 45 years of service in the Evansville community. Our programs throughout the years include building homes for families under the Habitat for Humanity program, voter registration drives, hosting seminars on women’s health issues, mentoring programs for young girls, and a scholarship fund to assist students with expenses upon entering college.

While we are proud of our service and programs, we work alongside phenomenal women doing incredible public service and making an impact in the community. So, please adorn your hats, invite family members and friends and join us on Mother’s Day Weekend, as we recognize phenomenal women in this community.

If you have questions about the Red Shoe Luncheon, please contact Diane Clements-Boyd at dclem19000@yahoo.com or by phone at 812.457.1148.

We look forward to you joining us for this wonderful luncheon as we honor women and celebrate 45 years of

Shooting/Murder Investigation 700 blk Monroe Ave

1

On May 6th, around 10:40 p.m., Evansville Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Monroe Ave. and Linwood Ave. for multiple shots fired. Officers were flagged down in the 700 block of Monroe about a shooting victim. Officers located a 15-year-old juvenile who had been shot and was having difficulty breathing. Officers rendered first-aid until AMR arrived to take over and transport the victim to the hospital. Unfortunately, the victim did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Dispatch received another 911 phone call about a 17-year-old juvenile victim who had been dropped off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. The injury appeared to be a graze and the victim was alert and conscious. The two victims were involved in the same shooting incident.

This investigation is still active and no arrests have been made. The suspects were described as three black males wearing all black and latex gloves. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Adult Investigations Unit at (812) 436-7979.

Events Showcase The Skills Of The EPD

May 7, 2023

Starting this Saturday, The Evansville Police Department will be involved in multiple events going on around the downtown area. You will most likely see many law enforcement vehicles driving around Evansville representing many agencies from all over the United States.

This Saturday, May 6th, between 8 a.m.-noon, the Evansville Police Foundation SWAT Challenge will be going on around the Riverfront area.

Starting Sunday, May 7th, and continuing through May 10th, the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA), is hosting the “National Detector Dog Trials 2023” at the Evansville Police Department. Anticipating more than 130 first responders and judges in attendance, the USPCA projects at least 63 of America’s very best detection dogs and handlers will compete to identify narcotics, explosives, and accelerants, quickly and accurately during “real world” training exercises and through multiple distractions.

The 2023 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Public Information Officers Section Midyear Conference & Training will also be held in Evansville from May 8 to May 10. We are expecting close to 100 law enforcement representatives from agencies all over the United States.Â
