In a game marked by superb pitching, the Evansville Otters could not muster enough offense in a 2-1 loss against the Lake Erie Crushers on Thursday evening at Bosse Field in front of 3,768.
In the first inning, Douglas Trimble singled home a run to put Lake Erie on the board first. A second run came across in the inning when on an attempted steal of second base an error from the Otters shortstop on the throw to second allowed a run to score from third.
Evansville got their first run when Daniel Spingola tripled to right and a subsequent throwing error on the relay back to the infield allowed Spingola to score.
That would be the final tally of the game, as both sides pitched shutouts the rest of the way with Lake Erie prevailing 2-1.
Alex Romero is credited with the win for the Crushers. Romero threw eight innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out seven.
Tyler Vail gets the tough luck loss for the Otters, his third defeat of the season. Vail threw seven innings giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits while punching out seven.
Logan Lombana picks up his second save of the series with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Otters now begin a three-game set against the Windy City Thunderbolts at Bosse Field. The first game of the series is tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. which is Kyndle Night at the ballpark.
The rest of the Otters week-long homestand will feature nights such as Princess Night and Fellowship Day and Family Fun Day.
