ATLANTA – No. 4-ranked Indiana will have 10 finalists on the last night of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships following Saturday (March 26) morning preliminary action inside McAuley Aquatic Center.

IU’s night will begin with junior Michael Brinegar swimming the mile in the fourth of five heats, set to begin at 4:58 p.m. ET. Brinegar has the ninth-best time coming in, a 14:40.23 that he set midseason.

Junior Brendan Burns is Indiana’s highest seeded finalist as the No. 4 in the 200 Butterfly championship final. Burns put up a 1:40.07 in the prelim, just two-tenths behind the swim that won him a Big Ten title in February.

Senior Jacob Steele kicked off the session with a career-best 1:39.98 in the 200 Backstroke, good for the 11th-best time in the field and a spot in the consolation final. At 1:40.39, fellow senior Gabriel Fantoni placed 17th to just miss out on the final by two tenths.

In the next event, the 100 Freestyle, freshman Rafael Miroslaw and senior Bruno Blaskovic finished first and second, respectively, in heat four. Miroslaw touched in 41.63 and Blaskovic in 41.72 as both finished well above their seeds, in 10th and 13th, to advance to the evening session.

The No. 33 seed coming into the 200 fly prelim, sophomore Tomer Frankel swam over a second better than his 1:43.06 seed time and vaulted 17 spots to grab the final B final bid. Frankel touched in 1:41.76 and won the opening heat by over two seconds.

Senior Andrew Capobianco and freshmen Quinn Henninger and Carson Tyler finished ninth, 10th and 12th in the Platform dive prelim, respectively, to earn three of the top four spots in the consolation final. Indiana is one of two programs with three divers advancing to the next round.

The final night will conclude with the 400 Freestyle Relay. Indiana is the No. 9 ranked relay going into the event, with a 2:47.96 seed time from its silver-medal performance at the Big Ten Championships.
