Cooper Stadium is one of the top facilities in the MVC

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Capping off a season that saw the University of Evansville softball team finish with one of the top ten turnarounds in the NCAA, the program added yet another improvement to its home venue – Cooper Stadium.

Thanks to the generosity of supporter Jim Domen, a new scoreboard was installed at the stadium this week and is already fully operational.  This adds to an already impressive list of improvements to the venue under head coach Mat Mundell.  Other additions included: new awnings, purple windscreens around the outfield and new padding at the facility.

“It is an exciting day for Aces Softball with the addition of the new scoreboard.  I want to thank Jim Domen for his generous contributions to the softball program,” Mundell said.  “The great thing is that we continue to invest back into our facilities. Last season we were able to add new canopies on Cooper Stadium as well as padding for our on batting cages.  Our goal is clear to have Cooper Stadium be one of the best facilities in the MVC.”

Domen echoed those sentiments and is excited for his contribution to the program.

“I have been following UE athletics for a long time and got involved with the softball program when Gwen (Lewis) was still there.  When Coach Mundell arrived a few years ago, it really spiked my interest and I wanted to go all in and back him up,” Domen said.  “I enjoy supporting the program any way that I can in order to make this a better experience for the student-athletes.  I am very happy to do this project, the scoreboard will be there for a long time.”

This project replaces the old scoreboard, which has been utilized by the program for the last 20 years.  It was at the team’s old softball facility before being moved to Cooper Stadium in 2002.  It has been the main scoreboard at the facility since that time.
