EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Following a high school career that saw him finish as the all-time leading scorer at Walton-Verona High School, Aaron Gutman has signed on with the University of Evansville men’s basketball team.
“We are thrilled to welcome Aaron Gutman and his family to the UE family! As we continue building toward the future of our program, we’re focused on bringing in young, high-potential talent—and Aaron exemplifies exactly that,” UE head men’s basketball coach David Ragland exclaimed. “He is an extremely competitive and athletic player with impressive positional size.”
“Our priority remains clear: adding skilled players who can dribble, pass, and shoot. Aaron checks all those boxes. Even more importantly, he brings a relentless drive to improve and a work ethic that stands out,” Ragland continued. “We are excited for the impact Aaron will have on our program in the years to come.”
Gutman completed his high school career with 2,050 points to go along with 675 rebounds, and 143 3-point makes. The scoring record at Walton-Verona had stood since 1958. Following the season, Gutman was tabbed as the Co-KABC Player of the Year in the 8thRegion while earning 8th Region All-Region and 8th Region All-Tournament accolades.
He shined as a senior, averaging a team-high 23.3 points per game over the course of 34 contests. His efforts helped the team finish with a 21-13 record while playing in the 8thRegion semifinals.
Following the season, Gutman was selected to play in the Kentucky-Ohio All-Star game and finished with 13 points, two blocks, a steal, and assist. He is set to play for the Kentucky All-Star team in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star games, which will take place on June 6 and 7.
“I chose Evansville because of the culture created by the coaches,” Gutman said. “The biggest thing for me was being around people who truly appreciate me.”
