“While I am disappointed by tonight’s outcome, I am equally optimistic that we can continue to have a productive dialogue about how to improve the structure of government in Evansville and Vanderburgh County. We’ll return to work tomorrow with the continued mission focusing on the same goal: How do we improve our city and build a vibrant economy that continues to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Thank you to everyone who invested so much time and effort on behalf of their city and county.”
– Mayor Lloyd Winnecke
Picking up trash is not enough. Remember the college kid who threw down his drink cup and was scolded by the guy who was picking up trash? The kid replied, “Just look at it as employment security.”.
You need to look at the city budget and spending without the rose-colored glasses. Get real. The money is no longer there. Evansville is running people out. For every job you claim is gained, matching jobs are lost. One step forward, two steps back. Empty buildings abound, but you promote more construction with tax dollars and DESTRUCTION of multi-million dollar buildings, like Roberts Stadium, which was paid for and showing a profit. The paranoia regarding the success of the Fraud Arena, has blocked your view of what truly needs to be done in Evansville.
We no longer have 3 hospitals, but 2 and those are building in Warrick County. We have only 2 local newscasts, 3, if you count WEHT25/WTVW7’s simulcasts, two of the much touted HDTV channels, 25.2 & 9.3, have disappeared, those remaining carry hours of paid advertisements, local news and reruns. Industrial Contractors and Keller-Crescent belong to companies in the Netherlands, with K-C headed to shutdown and relocation there.
If you want to improve government in Evansville, start by firing Jennie Collins and get someone with an accounting degree or an MBA and a minor in IT, to run the accounting dept. of the water department. You might appear to have something of a backbone if you would do that one thing. Otherwise, WHY are you afraid of her? WHAT does she know and WHO will fall if she spills the beans? Maybe it would help clean house.
Grow up Winnecke. Being mayor isn’t a game. You are dealing with the lives and futures of the PEOPLE of Evansville. Quit looking for a quick fix to its problems and dig in and work on the CSO. We don’t need more flim-flam like parks to maintain. We need sweet smelling air, and the EPA off our backs.
We need the city to cut expenses, not just shift things around with puffed up excuses for spending more money. Prove our belief that a politician has never seen a dollar he couldn’t find a way to spend, to be in error.
NoMoDoh, you deserve a standing ovation for stating EXACTLY what so many people of Evansville would like to say. Hard hitting, and true.
“Improve the structure of government”? How about you just focus on YOUR job as it is defined? You can start by stopping the useless spending, stop covering for the former Mayor and get the books straight.
READ BETWEEN THE LINES: “My staff and I will now look to annexation to gain tax revenue.”
I hope the anti consolidation forces are geared up. Annexation is much harder to fight.
How about guns and pitchforks? Trampling on the will of the governed is pretty much guns and pitchforks time. Winnecke can’t dance and exercise his dumb ass away from a pitchfork.
Carol and her little wife want to be KING of Vanderburgh County-and then we will ALL dance to her tune!
CCO, I am grateful for YOU-if nothing else, we will see the rot that continues to be exposed (I predict we have just seen the tip of this mountain)
Keep our eyes open, keep showing us the truth-SOME of us are paying attention.
Winnecke keeps up with this elitest double-speak, of no substance, and we will have to name the taxpayer’s next hotel purchase after him,—We have “The John”, the “McCurdy Pigeon Coop”, next up, the “Winnecke Ha Ha Hotel”—what a ding-dong , He has been eating his own “dog chow” for so long,–his ego thinks it’s Purina! One Term Marionette,–uh, Mayor!
You are expecting a guy without the ability to do so to straighten out a city that has been used by the “in-crowd” for over forty years.
We turned away, and have now turned out of office, a man that could have accomplished it.
We continue to deserve what we have: fantastic and friendly people who will believe and vote for what we have.
lord help us.
For Roberta Heiman & the League of Women Voters to have spent 2 + years on this, for Lloyd Winnecke’s supporters to have spent $10,000 + on this, and for the Chamber to use a significant chunk of its political capital on this only to get beat 66-34 that my friends…. is justice! I couldn’t be happier with the results in this referendum. It’s about the only wise choice I have ever seen Vanderburgh and Evansville make in a long time.
