Pickens and Katterhenry leads the squad
 CHICAGO – Freshman Maria Pickens notched a hole-in-one on the 13th hole as the University of Evansville women’s golf team finished the opening day of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Sunday at Harborside International Golf Center (Port Course) in Chicago, Ill.
Pickens accomplished the feat on the par three hole and finished the day with a 4-over 76. She ranks in a tie for 14thplace overall. Also recording a 76 was Kayla Katterhenry. The Newburgh, Ind. native matched Pickens’ effort as the duo leads the Purple Aces with the first of three rounds in the books.
Maggie Camp finished the first day with a 78. The junior is third on the team and 21st on the leaderboard. Giulia Mallmann and Madison Chaney each posted rounds of 85 and sit in a tie for 44th.
Evansville sits in seventh place on the leaderboard with a score of 316. The Aces are five shots behind 6th-place UNI and just six strokes out of the top five.
Wichita State leads the way on the team side. Their 297 is two ahead of Bradley and nine in front of Indiana State. Loyola (307) and Southern Illinois (310) finish off the top five. Brooke Cusumano of SIU paces the individuals as her 1-under 71 is one in front of Bradley’s Danielle Lemek.
The teams play one round on Monday before the final 18 will take place on Tuesday. Start time each morning is 8:30 a.m.
