Mallory Russell leads UE at The Velvet

 SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – With two out of three rounds complete at The Velvet Championship, Mallory Russell leads the University of Evansville women’s golf team at the Country Club of Paducah.

Russell opened the tournament with a on Monday with a 5-over 77 before carding a 78 in the second round.  Her total of 155 is tied for 16th heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes.  Following her was Louise Standtke.  Identical scores of 78 gave her a 156 for the day, tying her for 19th.

Elizabeth Mercer is third for the Purple Aces with a 157.  She opened the day with a 78 before recording a 79.  She heads into the final round tied for 24th.  Fourth on the team was Jane Grainkina.  After posting an 85, Grankina lowered her score to a 79 and is tied for 52nd with a 164.  Trinity Dubbs was fifth with a 165.  Her rounds finished at 79 and 86.

The individual standings are led by Caroline Patterson of UNC Asheville.  She followed up a 74 with a 4-under 68 to complete the day with a 142.  She is two ahead of her nearest competition.

Austin Peay holds the team lead by 16 strokes over UNC Asheville.  Evansville is in 7th place, just two behind a fifth-place tie.
