Lawrence wins 3000 meters to pace Eagles at UIndy

University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field sophomore distance runner Darin Lawrence(Indianapolis, Indiana) won the 3000 meters Saturday afternoon at the UIndy Collegiate Invitational.

Lawrence paced the field and seven other Screaming Eagles en route to his first place finish in a time of 9 minutes, 2.99 seconds.

Also on the track, the Eagles had five more top eight finishes. Freshman Arie Macias (Godfrey, Illinois) placed seventh in the 800 meters in 2:04.08, junior Austin Jones (Botkins, Ohio) third in the 1000 meters in 2:41.83, and sophomore Darius Payne (Louisville, Kentucky), freshman Madison King (Avon, Indiana) and junior Tyler Kruse (Fort Branch, Indiana) finished fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively, in the 600 meters.

Freshman Tyrell Nickelson (English, Indiana) led the Eagles in the field events, taking third in the high jump and seventh in the triple jump. He jumped a height of six feet, 4.75 inches to clear the bar and a distance of 39’2 5″.

The Eagles return to Indianapolis next Friday and Saturday for the UIndy Tom Hathaway Distance Classic.
