Lady Blazers grab 10th win of the season at Delta College

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers hit double digits in the win column just before the Holiday break after a Wednesday afternoon road showdown with Delta College.

The Lady Blazers caught fire from long range, hitting 13 three-point shots on their way to an 82-57 win over the Lady Pioneers.

The day did not get off to a great start for the Blue and Gold, with Delta College opening the game on a 10-2 scoring run on their home floor.

Vincennes would respond back to tie the game at 11-11. Delta would gain a six-point advantage before VU closed out the first quarter strong to even the score at 19-19.

The VU shooters began to get hot at the start of the second quarter, with the Blazers hitting four straight shots from three-point range to take a nine-point lead.

Vincennes would add more to this lead before halftime, heading into the break with a 41-28 lead on the scoreboard.

Coming out of halftime the Lady Pioneers looked to keep the game close and played the Blazers even throughout most of the period.

VU used a late 7-0 scoring run to take a 19-point lead before Delta scored the final basket of the quarter to head into the fourth with the Blazers ahead 64-47.

The Blazers now looked to put the game away in the fourth quarter and were able to put a bigger gap on the board with Delta, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 18-10 in the final period of play, as Vincennes now heads into the Holiday break off of an 82-57 victory.

VU was led offensively by sophomore Kennadi Harris (Columbus, Ohio) who finished with 19 points, 15 of which coming in the first half.

Sophomore Cherrelle Newsom (Indianapolis, Ind.) ended her day with five made three’s on her way to 18 points and four assists.

Sophomore Daylynn Thornton (Lafayette, Ind.) finished with 15 points to go along with five rebounds and a team-high five assists and four steals.

Sophomore Chanice Willis (Champaign, Ill.) came off the bench to reach double figures scoring, finishing with 13 points, 12 of which coming in the second half, four rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Nyre Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.) came off the bench to add six points and three steals to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.

Williams was matched in the rebounding column by freshman Brie Miller (Greencastle, Ind.) who also came away with seven boards, including five coming off of the offensive glass.

The Lady Blazers head into the midway break with a record of 10-6 and will look to begin the second half of the regular season strong when VU hosts No. 21 Moberly Area College at the P.E. Complex, Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m. eastern.
