University of Southern Indiana Women’s Track & Field sophomore Hope Jones (Cumberland, Indiana) was the lone scorer for the Screaming Eagles at the loaded Hillsdale “Gina” Relays over the weekend.
Jones earned her second NCAA Division II provisional time of the season in the 10,000-meters with a time of 36 minutes, 13.84 seconds. Finishing runner-up in the event, Jones’ time ranks 27th in NCAA II during the outdoor season. The sophomore also has an NCAA II provisional in the 5,000-meters with the 50th-fastest time during the outdoor season.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Kate Duty (Owensboro, Kentucky) ran her best time of the season, 11:20.72, to finish 17th in the event. The finish ranks Duty 61st nationally in NCAA II, fifteen seconds shy of a provisional.
A number of Eagles competed in the 5,000-meter open event, highlighted by sophomore Allison Rollins (Evansville, Indiana) placing 32nd. Not far behind Rollins, senior Bailey Knable (New Albany, Indiana) finished 34th, while junior Bryce Cutler (Benzonia, Michigan) crossed the finish line in 36th. Sophomore Micahlah Booher (Pendleton, Indiana) and senior Carly Whitesell (Zionsville, Indiana) rounded out the USI runners in 38th and 43rd, respectively.
USI returns to action at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships hosted by Saint Joseph’s College in Rennselaer, Indiana. The meet begins this Thursday, April 27, and runs through Saturday, April 29. The “last chance” meet will be held May 11-12 in Naperville, Illinois, at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, while the NCAA II Outdoor Championships are May 25-27 in Bradenton, Florida.
