Ivy Tech Community College has named Mr. Chris Kiefer as the new Dean of Business and Public Services for the Southwest Region.
Kiefer began his work at Ivy Tech in 2001 as a Criminal Justice Instructor, and has served as Program Chair for the Criminal Justice Program since 2004. From 1996 to 2004, Kiefer was a Deputy Sheriff with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.
Kiefer earned both his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Criminology from Indiana State University. He graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1996.
“Chris brings an enormous amount of academic experience and real world knowledge to his new role as Dean of Business and Public Services,†said Ivy Tech Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel. “With his passion for education and his tenacity for helping our students, I know he is going to do great things as a leader for Ivy Tech.â€
Always active in the community, Kiefer serves on many boards and committees. He serves on the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) Board of Trustees and has held the positions of both President and Vice President. He also serves on the boards of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Foundation, Banterra Bank Advisory Board, Salvation Army, Vanderburgh County Corrections, and Vanderburgh County Redevelopment. He is also actively involved with Memorial High School serving as its Booster Club President and a member of its Institutional Advancement Committee.
Since 2007, Kiefer has served as the Event Coordinator and Fundraiser for the Annual Public Safety Academy Bicycle Giveaway which has awarded hundreds of bicycles to children who attend the Public Safety Academy. In 2005 he was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Youth Award by Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana, and in 2011 he was awarded the Celebration of Leadership Individual Award in Education by Leadership Evansville.
