The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE that the folks from the “KEEP EVANSVILLE BEAUTIFUL” group have requested that the City of Evansville fund them at the $50,000 level for 2013? …that last year the City of Evansville contributed zero tax dollars to help fund the activities at KEB for 2012?

IS IT TRUE that we are wondering when the owners of the McCurdy Hotel will begin to start renovation of this historic downtown building into condos?…in spite of the word on the street and even from Civic Center Moles in the know that the Vanderburgh County Assessors website still lists City Centre Properties LLC of Carmel, IN as the owner of record?…the Assessors website also is still showing that two installments of property taxes are delinquent in the amount of $21,525.84 including penalties?… that either some of our Moles are incorrect or the Vanderburgh County Assessor’s office is recording title transfers at a snail’s pace?…to be an research effective tool transactions need to be recorded in a timely manner?

IS IT TRUE when the Winnecke Administration agreed to give members of the police department a 3% raise for 2013 they also created a situation where the expectation of the Evansville City Council became to give a 3% raise for 2013 to all of our city employees? …if the city doesn’t have an accurate accounting of the funds they have in major accounts that we wonder how can they guarantee anyone a raise for 2013?… the only answer available is for City Council members make major cuts in Mayor Winnecke’s 2013 budget requests?

IS IT TRUE it might be time for Evansville City Council to draw up a city ordinance requiring that all non-city organizations that receive funding from the city should file a single entity report called “A Yellow Book” audit? …that Evansville City Council should make the requirement target funding figure over $50,000?…we suspect that 5th Ward City Councilman and Budget Director, John Friend-CPA knows all about “Yellow BOOK” audits and could explain this to other council members in lay terms?…if adopted by council this would make all organizations receiving taxpayers monies more accountable?

IS IT TRUE that the broken ice machine located at hose house #7 was finally repaired for $500?…that the newly repaired machine was reinstalled at fire station #7 and never produced one ice cube?…that the new Fire Chief then purchased 2 used ice machines recently from the Robert’s Stadium Auction? …when he brought the machines back from the auction to install in select fire stations they didn’t work either?…that during this entire ice machine fiasco the new Evansville Fire Chief had 2 brand new ice machines stored at the Fire Department Administration building waiting to be installed somewhere?…the only thing we can say about these transactions is “Who’s on First”?

IS IT TRUE that the Teacher’s Union in Chicago waited until school started to call a strike?…there are 400,000 students in the Chicago Public Schools that are now out of a place to go during the day when they are supposed to be in the care of their teachers for the purpose of learning?…the City of Chicago has been having a record setting year for murder this year and that murders have been particularly high in young people?…if this move by the Teacher’s Union was designed to endear themselves to the public at large it is failing big time?…there are plenty of people from Chicago who are fed up with this tired old tactic and would welcome someone like Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to come to Chicago and fire the whole bunch of these self-serving narcissists and replace them with new teachers who are teaching for the right reasons and would not turn 400,000 school kids into the streets over money?

IS IT TRUE at the last night Evansville City Council the City Controller Russ Lloyd, Jr. stated that he is predicting that Ford Center will lose $341,000 in 2013?…that City Controller Russ LLoyd, Jr. also stated that the city has no idea what the total profit that the FORD CENTER has made so far this year?

  1. I’m in Winston Salem, NC this morning. The hotel I’m staying in was built in 1836 and originally a cotton mill. If this building can be converted into a nice hotel, surely the McCurdy can be restored.

    • I just wish the two boys would pick up the scrap lumber that’s been laying in the walkway between their building and the Arts Council for the past 3 years, along with the trash accumulated under the outside stairway to the condo building. Saw a rat run out from under all that crap last week when walking through the gangway from United Fidelity to the Walkway. Real appetizing encounter when I was on my way to Subway sandwich shop.

  2. Well, wholesale gasoline is still $3.02 per gallon, pretty much the same price as it was before the mighty hurricane Isaac threatened to shut down the Gulf refineries. Pretty much the same price as it was through the Labor Day weekend. Exactly what it was last Friday.

Yet retail gasoline to yet another jump to $3.99 yesterday for no apparent reason other than greed.

What do gasoline retailers know that no one else knows about gasoline? Is there going to be a sudden and massive shortage? Or is it that retailers know they can fix prices and fix them at an unreasonably high level with impunity?

We’ve sure had a bunch of lame lawmakers, governors, secretaries of state, and attorney generals who’ve let gasoline retailers in Indiana price fix and gouge the citizens of this state. Hoosier values? I hope I don’t see that empty slogan in any of their campaign ads this year.

  3. Why would a fire station NEED an ice maker? Given that the most firefighters on staff at any given time is under 10 people, wouldn’t a standard refrigerator with an ice maker suffice? Maybe this is for Al Lindsey’s house? He sure likes his Mt. Dew cold.

    • All our fire trucks have water jugs on them (the orange kind like you find on construction sites) for use by firefighters when they are on scene. These are pretty big (5 gallon, maybe?), and get rinsed and refilled with ice and water every morning so the hose heads have something to drink during rehab at a fire, training, or other incident.

Apparatus bays don’t have A/C, so many guys refill the water jugs again around after supper as well. The ice melts pretty quickly when the apparatus room temperature is in the 90’s like it has been all summer. A gulp of warm or hot water is NOT very pleasant after a fire…

Anyway, a standard fridge ice maker wouldn’t be able to keep up with demand. Hope that answers your question.

      • Thank you for the info. That makes a lot of sense, though would think there could be a more economical option than that but can’t think of one.

    • How long have you been a firefighter you seem to have an incredible amount of knowledge of the fire department. Stick to things you know about, which would mean you wouldn’t be blogging anymore, which in turn would increase the average IQ on this site by around 100 points.

      • Is that you Anslinger?

You don’t need to be a firefighter to have a incredible amount of knowledge about EFD, like each station has three fridges….one for each shift, all but the on duty shift has their fridge locked up to keep the other shifts from stealing their food.

All that is needed to have even a small amount of information about anything city/taxpayer related is to have a interest and pay attention, it also helps if you can weed through all the BS that is spewed out on a daily basis.

  4. There have been some suggestion, no doubt fueled by the fact that President Obama’s former Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel is now Mayor of Chicago, that what we are witnessing there is a bit of political theater, and at some point in time President Obama will swoop in and miraculously broker a settlement. Of course he would be doing it for the kids, not to mention the unions.

I hate it when kids are used a pawns in political games. These teachers make on average twice the money of the rest of Chicago’s workers. About $75.K versus $35.K annually.

  5. Well with the Centre + “The John”, going in the RED for a total of,
$1,000,000 a year, we can only conclude that Evansville’s Elitests are totally entertained, maybe climaxing, due to their peversity,– by watching Community resources being burned in the streets of “Old Downtown”.

  6. Giving taxpayer money Keep Evansville Beautiful is a waste of money.

Just drive anywhere in Vanderburgh County and you shall see that this organization has a failed in its mission.

Another useless and self serving financial “Rat Hole” for the taxpayers forced to support!

One term Mayor Winnenke has no idea how to spend our tax dollars wisely.

  7. Can the truth about the audit be hidden till after the election? If so ,it will, no need to fire up people and get them to vote NO on the power grab. Also I lost the post made a couple wks. ago about the budget of the city, county, & EVSC eating up the total value of property within 10 years. Could the poster please re-peat, it was enlighting.
