IS IT TRUE we just been informed by extremely reliable sources within in city government that all rate payers who use the City of Evansville Water and Sewer system shall be facing a whopping 38% rate increase in our sewer rates this coming year?…the 2nd year increase shall be another 8% increase and the third year the sewer rate shall increase by 18%?…the compounded amount of the increase that the City of Evansville will be voting on will increase the rate payers that are connected to the Evansville sewer system by a whooping 75.87%?…this means that if you currently are paying $100 per month that you will be paying $175.87 three years?
IS IT TRUE we do not know if the proposal made by the City of Evansville to the EPA has been accepted or rejected?…when that decision is made known we shall know whether the bonded debt of the City will be increased by $545 Million or $815 Million?…even holding a vote on spending $37.5 Million on a gift to a hotelier is highly irresponsible?…even the poor hotelier may get stuck with un-affordable water bills due to the implementation of the EPA mandates?…we urge the Evansville City Council to delay any vote on funding a hotel, a park, or any other non-essential item until the EPA issue is settled?
Let’s see, the CP critizes Friend for holding up the hotel deal for 30-40 days…what other surprises is this administration going lay on the taxpayers…dog park, hotel, park funds that are apparently broke…Oh, Mr. Friend, please hold up the as long as you can!!
This is no surprise. I was involved in discussions in the eighties about fixing the sewers. I was told the people would never except the large rate increases it would take. This is going to be expensive an has to be done. It has been kicked down the road to long. I am still not convinced the meter upgrade isn’t a boondoggle. But I am sure the sewers need fixing.
Looks like another back room political secret the Mayor and his cronies withheld from the public and City Council.
People are losing trust for this libel left wing Mayor everyday.
Wonder what other money secrets he is withholding from us?
Rumor has it that millions planned ti be allocated to the Mesker threater…
I am convinced the best approach to turning this City around is to be an attractive place for JOBS. In order to do that, a City must show that it is willing to guarantee to provide long term low tax rates and an educated and qualified workforce. If water and sewer rates are increasing by 75% or more over a three year period while electric rates remain the among the highest in the country, we can neither keep qualified people here to work, nor attract new businesses to provide work for them.
A thriving City has to be first based upon fundamental infrastructure and a sound economic base. Evansville is not a tourist destination! We cannot continue to throw good money after bad in the frivolous pursuit of tourism and entertainment. We should focus on bread and butter and keeping what we have nice.
Poster on C&P suggested the Sig School be moved to the McCurdy for their expansion as they need more room, and the Sig School building (remember it was the Sontag Hotel) be renovated into a new hotel. Very interesting idea. EVSC pays to renovate the McCurdy and City saves millions and millions of taxpayer money and ends up with a downtown hotel. Maybe an even better idea is for the new EVSC administration building to be the new Sig School and then a new hotel is back at the old Sontag Hotel location. This would be great for Main Street businesses.
Those are all wonderful suggestions, but way too progressive for our city “leaders” to wrap their little minds around.
Why on earth anybody would move to this shithole is beyond me.
I can see the billboards now. “Evansville, the shithole where the shitters don’t work”
I like “Evansville: Just Keeping The Lights On”
BJ Watts wanted to turn the lights off to save money.
Wow, they can raise Sewer rates 78 % WITHOUT having to buy $ 45,000,000 worth of meters.
Um, could have just raised Water rates as well, and saved the $ 45,000,000. Come on City Council, reverse your incredibly poor Johnson Controls decision and start acting in the public’s interest !
