IS IT TRUE Part 2 October 4, 2012 (The Presidential Debate)
IS IT TRUE that debate and giving a speech are very different skills as the art of debate involves thinking quickly and clearly communication a response in real time to ones opponents claims while giving a speech with the aid of speechwriters and a teleprompter really is more like a performance without feedback?…we have all known for a long time that President Obama is perhaps the best speechmaker in the history of the presidency?…the limited debate skills of John McCain in the 2008 election coupled with the manic embrace of candidate Obama’s message of hope and change made for a situation where President Obama really was not tested as a debater until last night?…that many charismatic preachers are quite good at delivering a sermon to the converted but would get destroyed in a formal debate on any subject at all?…that last night was one of those nights when President Obama who is a magnificent deliverer of speeches ran into a brick wall when it comes to the skills needed to compete in a formal debate setting?…that Mitt Romney took President Obama to school in last night’s nights Presidential debate in every way possible?…many people are surprised but that was just the way it was on the evening of October 3, 2012 in Denver, CO?
IS IT TRUE the topics chosen for the debate were the right topics and that the moderator continuously asked the two candidates to differentiate between themselves?…that Jim Lehrer while not keeping the stallions in check and on schedule did lay down the right ground rules?…Mr. Lehrer has been getting some guff in the press this morning for failing to herd the candidates well but telling the President of the United States to stop talking when he is 6 minutes into a 2 minute segment does take some nerve?…both candidates did seem to run all over Mr. Lehrer when it came to the 2 minute segments but much good information was aired and some answers with respect to their differences did come out?…that in the after debate discussions with undecided voters it seemed as though most of them did gather some information to help them make up their minds?…we are certain that President Obama is glad that he will have two more chances to debate Mitt Romney and that he is especially pleased that the next debate is a Town Hall forum that is more friendly to a speech maker than a straight up in your face debate?
IS IT TRUE that when Bill Maher, who hates Mitt Romney and donated $1 Million to the Obama campaign starts tweeting “it looks like the President really does need a teleprompter†and “in my opinion Romney won this debate†instead of trying to spin the outcome that the wheels really did come off of the Obama bus last night?…that when Andrea Mitchell (Mrs. Alan Greenspan) and Mika Brzezinski are on NBC discussing how “sick to their†stomach they are about the President’s poor performance then something went seriously wrong with President Obama’s Wednesday?…when the cast of liberals that crow each morning on the “Morning Joe†show on MSNBC seriously discuss the possibility that Obama went on his own and must have ignored his advisors while praising Mitt Romney for the best Republican debate performance since President Reagan’s game changing debate against President Carter in 1980 then all is not well in the Obama Nation?…it is safe to say that when ones best supporters admit defeat rather than claim some platitudinal moral victory that you got your butt whipped?…last night’s debate was in much likelihood a good warm up act for next week’s Vice Presidential debate at Centre College in Danville, KY?…VP Joe Biden has already made the opening statement for Paul Ryan with his “the middle class has been buried in the last 4 years†speech?…it will be interesting?
IS IT TRUE of the things to learn last night one was that President Obama clearly does not understand the expanding economy model of revenue generation?…most kids can understand that 20% of a 10 pound pie is more than 25% of a 7 pound pie?…that concept of cutting tax rates while increasing revenue was not something that President Obama seemed to understand?…he clearly understands redistributing pie but does not have a grasp on how to make the pie in the first place?…if he should win we sure hope he learns something about making pie because the pie we have is just about gone?…the other thing we learned as was echoed on the Morning Joe Show is that President Obama is a poor debater and according to the host he always has been?…it is scary to think of last night’s version of President Obama engaging in a debate with Mr. Putin, Angela Merkel, Syria’s Assad, Akminijad, or the rabble in the streets of the Arab world screaming for American blood?…debate skills and collaboration are more essential to being an effective president than preaching a sermon to the choir?…if America is to achieve its former glory it will be the skills of debate and collaboration that lead us there?
Hope and Change I vote for change!!!!!!!
I didn’t watch the debate last night (too busy) but did watch and listen to the entire debate this morning on the net (here’s a link if anybody wants to watch)
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/10/04/full_first_presidential_debate_between_romney_and_obama.html
It was interesting to see the president on his own without the aid of a teleprompter, I think the CCO got it right, Mr Romney was clearly more at home thinking on his feet and really had command of the entire debate IMHO.
JMHO
Wonder if this debate would have got the same attention if the tables were turn?
Didn’t bother to watch it. There is absolutely nothing about either of these jokers I don’t already know, including the fact they will answer to many of the same masters no matter who wins, wars will expand, freedom will be eroded, more fiat money will be printed, the welfare state will expand, debt will rise, etc…etc…etc…ad nauseum.
Agreed!
Best speechmaker in the history of the presidency? Eh…not so much.
…and for the life of me, I will never get my head around anyone who calls himself a “conservative” basing his vote on how well a Presidential candidate understand business. A President doesn’t have to understand anything about business, except that he has no hand in it whatsoever. The only things the POTUS should be worried about are those Constitutionally enumerated powers in Article II, Section 2, which is EXTREMELY SHORT reprinted below for everyone’s reminder and convenience:
Article II, Section 2:
“Section. 2.
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.”

If a president does not not understand anything about “business”, then how is he to make informed decisions about tax legislation that arrives on his desk for his signature? Your statement is way off the mark.
____
That’s easy. Taxes should remain as low as possible and government remain as small as possible. We should have sound, Constitutional money, which we would have by default if we followed the letter of the Law…
So, no…I don’t think it’s “way off the mark” to say that the job of President is really underneath it all a pretty simple one requiring very little “business” knowledge when one considers he really doesn’t have that much to do but get the hell out of the way and uphold the Constitution.
Here’s what I think about all this “understanding business” rhetoric… This boils down to flimsy “conservatives” who lack the spine to call for an end to the fiat money system of the Federal Reserve and champion a truly FREE market that doesn’t involve themselves getting deals from government which benefit their own pet special interests.
These “conservatives” enjoy the privilege of the status quo too much to want to truly correct the problem. They will talk a great game about how much “business sense” they have, but this is really just code for “I’m going to reward my friends and support bailouts and the lender of last resort/moral hazard system”. Mitt Romney is a crony capitalist who supported bailouts. No amount of rhetorical squirming on your part will ever erase that. This man is a shill and an empty suit.
Agree again!
By the way… It seems to me your efforts would be better spent on a campaign to repeal the 16th Amendment than cheerleading for a progressive liberal bailout supporter, that is if you really are the conservative you claim to be.
Talk about broad support, try getting this kind of consensus on any legislation passed nowadays :
In July 1909, a proposed amendment to allow the federal government to tax incomes was passed unanimously in the Senate and by a vote of 318 to 14 in the House. It was quickly ratified by the states [Indiana 1911], and on February 3, 1913, it became a part of the Constitution.
Teddy Roosevelt(D) was a big government type and a big spender. Taft(R) replaced him and inherited all the debt. We might very well see something analogous to that time period should Romney win. The alternative would see us dragged into deeper and deeper water where our debt is concerned. I do not like the alternative and will not vote for the destruction of America as I know Her.
____
Hey, you gotta start somewhere. I’m sorry you don’t want the destruction of America as you know her…but that’s exactly what I want. America has been a mere shadow of herself for the last 100 years or more. The move toward Empire and away from the Republic has been ongoing. If you think Barack Hussein Obama was the catalyst for America’s destruction then you should read more history.
From my perspective, you simply assume too much. Bush also ran on a smaller government platform, but look what happened when he got in office. We had the biggest explosion of debt since the Johnson era.
Any action you take that is motivated solely by fear, as you just suggested your Romney vote would be, is not an action you are in control of – it is a reaction to something created by someone and designed to instill that fear. In this case, I think your fears are mostly justified about the direction of the country, but to get from there to the point where you accept Romney is the solution takes too many liberties with reason and evidence.
Life is short and I refuse to have my actions dictated by solely by fear. If you allow that, you will never accomplish anything. You will be pushed by the prevailing winds and attitudes from one bad decision to the next.
I know poison when I see it:

You had better back off the kool-aid before you wind up taking a fatal dose.
___
Ha!
Whose Kool Aid do you imagine I’m drinking? And what Kool Aid did you drink to arrive at that conclusion?
We all drink Kool Aid, man. At least the stuff I drink I made myself using the Founders’ recipe. 😉
I really don’t see where these million new jobs will come from. Neither candidate gave any indication what kind, pay grade, or cost of all these new jobs. If they have an answer I don’t think we need to wait till Jan. I fear it’s all smoke and mirror jobs.
Ditto’s to Brad! Your are right on target dude!
