IS IT TRUE? October 6, 2011

IS IT TRUE that some people from Boonville showed up unexpectedly at the offices of John Friend and Associates to get a copy of the petition that he is gathering signatures for to request that IURC meetings be held in Evansville and that Vectren should have no rate increases until neighboring areas have caught up with Vectren’s rates?…that the asked permission to use the words and to modify them for Warrick County?…that Councilman Friend said yes and that they said they will start gathering signatures tomorrow?

IS IT TRUE that this new group called “Occupy Evansville” has doubled its traffic in one day?…that it seems as though this group is going to march in sympathy for the protesters on Wall Street, Boston, and other American cities?…that such a gathering in Louisville yesterday attracted only around 200 people?…that we have it on good authority that there are many people associated with the Tea Party who are planning on joining this group for their march on Saturday?…that other than marchers are free to dress as zombies very little else has been stated about the reason or nature of this gathering?…that we shall find out at 1:00 pm Saturday at One Vectren Square?…that we encourage all who attend to be peaceful and respectful of the property of others?

IS IT TRUE that the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that the EPA will be announcing an ease of their restrictions on the amount of pollutants that can be emitted in 27 states?…that the allowable discharges are reportedly to be increased by between 1% and 4%?…that the states that will be having these changes have not been released but it is expected that these states will be the ones that burn predominantly coal to generate electricity?…that Indiana and Kentucky are both highly dependent on burning coal to generate electricity?…that relaxing EPA standards could be somewhat of a game changer for the expected rise in electricity prices caused by high capital improvement costs?…that this could create a real competitive quandary for places like Evansville where the expenses have already been incurred and passed on to rate payers if the close neighbors are let off of the hook to follow suit?…that the article is on the link below and that we will be watching for follow up news as it develops?

IS IT TRUE that the campaigns for the City of Evansville offices are heating up and that especially the Mayor’s race is turning into a game of dueling press releases?…that we have been treated to policy statements from both Lloyd Winnecke and Rick Davis this week and we anticipate that there will be more?…that the whole Vectren petition, Zombie Walk, bundle of energy is positive and has the potential to elevate the awareness and understanding of the area if all involved are respectful in their endeavors?…that the first week of 40 Days of Hell has lived up to its billing and that we only have 33 days to go?…that in that 33 days we will surely know if this reincarnation of the McCurdy project crashes and burns and we may even know if and who will be selected to take on the task of the downtown Convention Hotel?…that we will most certainly demand the WHY in both cases?

IS IT TRUE that we have been advised that a high profile member of the GOP is strongly considering making a public endorsement of Rick Davis for Mayor of Evansville?…that the next couple of weeks will be quite interesting?

  1. Remember this last Fall Festival?

“Davis said members of the Nut Club told him the Democratic Central Committee’s booth could remain unused at the Fall Festival all week. Despite that assurance, the booth was towed away between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, Davis said.

Owen said volunteers with the Democratic Central Committee decided to remove the booth. He said he wasn’t certain of its whereabouts.

Davis said many prominent Democrats were scheduled to work in the booth, such as Sheriff Eric Williams, who is running unopposed for re-election; Mike Goebel, who is seeking election as a state representative; Mary Hart, who is running for re-election as Pigeon Township Trustee; and Bob Mangold, who is seeking election as Center Township Trustee. Davis said Owen’s decision to close the booth denied all of them an opportunity to raise money for their campaigns and to advertise their candidacies.

Owen said local Democrats have regularly maintained two booths in recent years at the Fall Festival but that practice was fast coming to an end. He said many leaders in the party have said they found operating the second booth to be a hassle and have cited reasons for shutting it down for good.”

    • Is it true that Rick Davis made a deal with Mark Owen to staff and manage the Democrat Central Committee booth at the 2010 Fall Festival, and that the JFK Club would then get 1/2 the gross profit from the operation? That Davis knew full well that the Democrat Central Committee was the official permit holder on the booth and the booth space at the Westside Nut Club Fall Festival?

Is it true that Davis’s rash actions in the mayor’s office on the Friday preceeding the 2010 Fall Festival when Rick prematurely got all up in Weinzapfel’s face and announced he was running for mayor whether or not Weinzapfel ran? Is it true that even an imbecile would know that no county chairman in his right mind would then simply hand the Fall Festival booth over to Davis and the JFK Club to raise funds to conduct a campaign against the incumbent head of the party?

Is it true that another of Davis’s rash actions was to insist to Nut Club officials that the permit be changed to show the JFK Club was the permit holder for that booth rather than the Democrat Central Committee? That the Nut Club officials than pulled the plug because Fall Festival booths cannot be sublet from one organization to another?

Is it true that all these actions by Rick Davis had to be either sheer political idiocy or a calculated plot to torpedo the Democrat Central Committee’s fundraising ability and prime exposure venue for Democrat candidates at the 2010 Fall Festival during high season politics?

Is it true that these two incidents are simple little examples of how Rick Davis cannot keep his mouth shut when it’s good for him and for the organizations he’s a part of? That he cannot keep his political weenie in his pants when it need not be exposed? That he has a severely over inflated opinion of himself as a power-broking mover and shaker? That these serious character flaws eventually will be his downfall in politics and would be a detriment to the City of Evansville, if he were fortunate enough to be elected mayor?

      • You mean that King John and Mark Owens didn’t get there commands followed to the tee, Well too bad, I’m sorry about that not!!!!

      • Tsk, tsk….How DARE he defy the mighty Mark Owen!

Who does this guy think he is, refusing to take orders from a behind-the-scenes party hack?

      • Is it true VERACITY, that you have have your facts and timeline wrong. Is it true that you were not there, and that you are getting your information 2nd hand. You know why, because I KNOW.

I’ve been reading your crap for 2 months know, and I know THE TRUTH, and more than you’ll ever KNOW about that booth.

        Put up or SHUT UP.

      • Sounds like he’d had enough of seeing the good ole boys making all their back door sweetheart deals and decided he couldn’t take it anymore. I applaud him for that. He is exactly what Evansville needs. Not everyone likes him, but the people who dislike him the most are the people who have the most to lose by someone like him being elected. The good ole boys need to go.

        • Indeed, the good ole boys must go. As commented on a related story today, the Evansville Community Tennis Association is attempting to take land in Wesselman Park to build a pole barn with tennis courts consuming an acre of ground and six additional outdoor courts plus a parking lot on the only remaining open green space in the park.

This is an outright taking of public land for private enterprise. This is true because, although the ECTA insists that the reason for the huge pole barn is for tournaments which they MAY get in the future, the building is, in fact, wanted to provide a place to teach private tennis lessons. The teachers of these private lessons are family members of a very generous donor to both the campaigns of our present mayor, JW and one of our city council members, Curt John.

The ECTA is also selling this public land grab as a way to increase tourism in Evansville but the numbers made no sense and the whole proposal was rejected by the new CVB and its new director a few months ago.

The truly sad thing about all this is that the children and adults that use this land now for unstructured activities (that is, inventive play vs organized sports) will have no other large open green space in Wesselman Park left for them. And to add to the affront, the existing tennis courts already in the park are left unused much of the time.

In 2003, when the original contract was signed between the ECTA and the Park Board, the then-park-board-president, Jay Ritter and then-mayor Russ Lloyd put their heads together and assigned the ECTA the current tennis court placement in Wesselman Park rather than in the park on the old state hospital grounds. In a park board meeting, Mr. Ritter’s explanation to me regarding that decision was that “those people [along Lincoln Ave] really use that park” apparently implying that Wesselman Park and the people who used it were less deserving of the park space. Remember that Wesselman has a golf course, baseball fields, basketball courts, volley courts, and a children’s play area. All that is very nice but a huge component of a park is green space which will be diminished greatly by this tennis take-over. This whole conversation is not in the minutes of any Park Board meeting although I have looked diligently for it. Was it another removal for convenience?

Then there is the whole issue of the legality of parts of the above-mentioned contract and the non-accountability of the Park Board. They answer to no one, least of all the people they serve.

Ultimately, this huge one-acre building and adjacent concrete tennis courts and parking lot will appreciably add to storm water run-off. Currently that land has a skim of H2O on it after a rain that slowly soaks into the ground. It is beautiful, natural system which will no longer work if the okay is given to the ECTA.

Additionally, the aesthetics of this structure to be plopped down in the middle of a beautiful green space, would be nothing short of ugly.

I invite anyone who thinks, as I do, that this is an affront to the people of Evansville and to our publicly-owned park, to please write to the Board of Zoning Appeals and/or plan on attending the BZA meeting on Oct. 20 at 4:00 in room 301 of the civic center.

One last point: I am not anti-tennis. I wish ECTA the best in their passion for this game. But the wishes of a few should not override the rights of the whole population.

      • The truth is plain. Rick Davis is not above making deals himself. And he has no problem going back on his deals.

The truth is, Davis knew what he was doing, and what he was doing was backhanded dealing. If the truth is not apparent, and he succeeds in fooling enough voters into thinking he is a reformer, then the sad truth will become apparent in time.

My prediction is that if Rick Davis is fortunate enough to become Mayor of Evansville, it won’t take the full 4 years for those of you now singing his praises to be slinging dispersions at Rick more fervently that you now denounce Weinzapfel.

        • Are you “listening” to yourself? Denounce? See, the problem is, Weinzapfel has no more right to the mayor’s office, other than by virtue of the voters. His term is up, elections are coming; elections he CHOSE to not participate in. That said, it is clear that his ideologies are being rejected and rejection is never easy to take. In just about a month, someone new will be in Room 301 of the Civic Center, and though I vehemently support Rick Davis, should Winnecke become mayor, I hope he is successful because Evansville sure needs it!

        • Is Rick Davis still running? I thought it was Danks and Danks considering they are bankrolling his whole campaign. Guess buying 2 judges wasn’t enough now they need a Mayor

          • Hmmmmm…..wonder what Mark Owen and the Central Committee goons have in mind as retribution on Danks and Danks….

No good deed can go unpunished by the machine.

      • Dont sound like you know anything about the truth. Sounds to us like you know alot about flaws, from running with Weinzapfel, no doubt. What is flawed here is your thinking. It is evident that you believe, in this free country, that people in Evansville dont have the right to run against the guy you no doubt call KING john. We, the people, love the fact that Rick had the courage to stand up to you thugs. That is the fact, Johny boy and his cronies are the true thugs, and have been pushing things down our throat for way to long. And further more, the real reason Johny didn’t run is because, you all know, Rick was going to kick his ass the way he did Troy the boy. And it was very smart of the party to get the booth pulled and loose that spot for ever. That way no democrat would ever again, recieve campaign funds from that very profitable spot.Another great move by johny and Owen, who is an embaressment to real men. Great job boys, take your ball and go home. Cant wait to send you all packin, like Tornado the terrible. Cant wait for you to eat those words, when Rick cleans up the city and the party.
Missy, your time is running out. Who is going to tell you what to do?
By the way, Is that you Jarboe?

        • Yeah, I heard that trash can didn’t make it out of that meeting alive.
I sure hope King John and his minions are all packing their bags. Their days are numbered. Can’t wait.

      • The fact Mr. Davis personally went to the Mayor to tell him know that he was running for Mayor, was a class act. Mr. Davis did not kick any trash cans in their meeting. You prefer for the Mayor to find out via rumor or a call from a reporter asking for a comment on Mr. Davis’ decision?

  2. Is there any truth that Danks and Danks is pouring a lot of money into Rick Davis?
