“IS IT TRUE” NOVEMBER 26, 2018

17

We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUE” will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?

IS IT TRUE at tonights City Council meeting an Ordinance Regarding City of Evansville Funds Allocated to ECHO Housing Corp will be discussed? …co-sponsors are Justin Elpers, Jonathan Weaver and discussion will be led by Finance Chairman Weaver?  …we hope that members the Evansville City Council will not approve any request to release any funds for ECHO Housing  Corp. without seeing a formal copy of the Forensic Audit conducted by an outside Accounting firm?  …we are hearing that the ECHO Housing Forensic Audit may have been completed and the Evansville Police Department told officials at ECHO Housing not to release any Audit information until their investigation is completed?  …this investigation has been going on for the last eight months and it’s time that the findings be released to the Media, DMD Director, ECHO Housing Board of Directors, the Mayor, and members of City Council?

IS IT TRUE at tonights City Council meeting City ORDINANCE F-2018-25 will be presented for discussion?  …the Ordinance reads; “An Ordinance of the Common Council of the City of Evansville Authorizing Transfers of Appropriations, Additional Appropriations and Repeal and Re-Appropriation of Funds for Various City Funds Sponsor(s)”? …we trust that members of City Council will ask pointed questions why this ordinance is needed at this late date in the 2018 budget cycle? …that the discussion of this Ordinance will be led by Finance Chairman Jonathan Weaver and Russ Lloyd, Jr., City Controller?

IS IT TRUE last week we posted that the newly elected County Commissioner of Vanderburgh County was offered free tickets to professional sporting events from someone who does business with the county? …that County Commissioner-elect Jeff Hatfield declined the free ticket offer? …we also reported that he also declined an offer by another County vendor to wine and dine him at an expensive restaurant?  …we are told that Commissioner-elect Jeff Hatfield also said he won’t accept any gifts of any kind from anyone doing business or want to do business with the county?  …were informed that Mr. Hatfield fellow Commissioners (Cheryl Musgrave and Ben Shoulders) had the same experiences with vendors doing business with the County?  …we are pleased to hear that Mrs. Musgrave and Mr. Shoulders also declined free gifts from vendors?

IS IT TRUE last week we posted that County Commissioner-elect Jeff Hatfield would like to see engineering, road and construction projects to be put out for competitive bidding? …we look forward to hearing Commissioners Musgrave and Shoulders positions on this issues?

IS IT TRUE  last week we posted that County Commissioner-elect Jeff Hatfield said: “that will not appoint any members of his immediate family to serve on influential local Boards and Commission”? …he also said; “that he is against the practice of nepotism in the public sector”?  ..we are also pleased to hear that Mrs. Musgrave and Mr. Shoulders also agree with Commissioner-elect Hatfield on this issue?

IS IT TRUE we are told that several partisan and non-partisan individuals are working on a strategy to defeat the current Mayor of Evansville in the upcoming 2019 City election? …we are told that the major upset victory by Democrat Jeff Hatfield over well known and popular Republican Mike Duckworth has caused major excitement within the Democratic party of Vanderburgh County? …we are told that several disgruntled Democrats, Libertarians, Republicans and non-partisan voters of the City are talking about forming a political coalition in order to find a credible person to run against a Mayor whom they considered to be a tax and spend politician?  …we are told that they also feel if Mike Duckworth can be defeated so can Mayor Winnecke?

IS IT TRUE during the Mid-term election we questioned if the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann has awarded a non-bid “Drug Testing and Tracking” contract to a big political campaign contributor?  …since that time, we haven’t received any Vanderburgh County Felony Charges reports from his public relations gal? …we look forward to Mr. Hermann to start resending us these reports because the public has a right to know about the who is charged with a felony?

IS IT TRUE that we continue to be impressed by Jon Webb over at the Evansville Courier and Press?  … kudos to Jon Webb for using his reporter’s skills to reach a highly probable conclusion?  …we know that Mr. Web has the journalism skills to write an interesting article about local politicians who give no-bid contracts to their big political donors?

IS IT TRUE that Channel 44 Anchor person Amanda Porter does a superb job in bringing us accurate and up-to-date local news of substance?  …that JoJo Genty the Sports Director of News 44 TV has earned the reputation of being extremely informative, detailed, aggressive and creative in providing her viewers with the current sports happenings in our region?  …the above news professionals are some of the reasons why Channel 44 TV is rapidly becoming known as a local news source you can trust and depend on

Todays“Readers Poll” question is: Do you feel that City Council shouldn’t release any funds to ECHO Housing Corp. until they are given a copy of the Forensic Audit report of that agency?

    • Saw the C&P article about Myriad Brewing in the McCurdy building. We wish them well and look forward to sampling their beer. Question, does anyone know if the McCurdy is paying for water/sewer service after the improper open loop geothermal system was discovered and corrected??

      • Good question. I’ve heard the City cant turn off the water service to the McCurdy because that would create a fire code violation for the fire prevention water sprinkler system. But, does that mean the McCurdy is getting continued water and sewer service without paying? Surely not.

  1. Just plain nuts> Democrats in New Jersey spending $2 million of tax dollars to help keep illegal aliens in the USA:
    ………………………………
” An illegal alien has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a six-year-old girl in Trenton, New Jersey, last year.

Edgar Mendoza, a 29-year-old illegal alien from Guatemala, has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison in New Jersey after he broke into the home of a New Jersey family and sexually molested their 6-year-old daughter.

The sentencing comes as New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) announced that he will set aside $2 million in taxpayer funds to help illegal aliens fight their deportation from the U.S.

In September 2017, Mendoza broke into the home of his victim and molested the 6-year-old girl in her bed, according to the Trentonian. When the victim’s father found the illegal alien in bed with his daughter, Mendoza escaped through a window on the home’s second floor.

  2. Feminists Charge $500 For ‘Heal From Internalized Whiteness’ Seminar

With admission averaging at only $475, Everyday Feminism is offering readers the opportunity to attend “Heal From Internalized Whiteness” seminars where they can learn to identify racism in their daily lives.

The website for the seminar, led by Everyday Feminism founder Sandra Kim, claims that white people are stepping forward in record numbers to combat racism due to the election of President Donald Trump.

However, many of these anti-Trump whites may be “unconsciously acting in racist ways.”

These misguided souls have the opportunity to pay Everyday Feminism up to $600 so they might “connect to the pain of internalized white supremacy and consciously choose to not act in racist way.”

Those who pay to attend will learn, among other things, “how to notice when your internalized whiteness is manifesting – even if you’re unconscious to it,” and maybe most importantly, “how to loosen the grip of internalized whiteness on you – even if you feel overwhelmed”.

  3. Yeah, all this “winning” under Trump

GM Lays Off 14.7K North American Workers, Puts 5 Plants Up For Closure

DETROIT (AP) — General Motors will lay off 14,700 factory and white-collar workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it restructures to cut costs and focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles.

The reduction includes 8,100 white-collar workers, some of whom will take buyouts and others who will be laid off. Most of the affected factories build cars that won’t be sold in the U.S. after next year. They could close or they could get different vehicles to build. They will be part of contract talks with the United Auto Workers union next year.

Plants without products include assembly plants in Detroit; Lordstown, Ohio; and Oshawa, Ontario. Also affected are transmission factories in Warren, Michigan, as well as Baltimore.

About 6,000 factory workers could lose jobs in the U.S. and Canada, although some could transfer to truck plants.

  4. From the article “As a country we remain in a state of shadow paralysis, not even able to adequately discuss or devise responses to critical foreign policy because the President’s actions are opaque and almost certainly corrupt”

The Danger of Trump’s Foreign Policy Corruption

With a highly dangerous situation unfolding between Russia and Ukraine over the weekend, it’s important to return to a basic point about President Trump and the danger he represents to the United States. This is as relevant to the crisis in relations with Saudi Arabia as it is with Russia and Ukraine.

With Saudi Arabia, we hear about a juxtaposition between American values and a narrower definition of American interests. But that’s not really the issue we’re wrestling with, though it is an important one in itself. Trump comically overstates US dependence on Saudi Arabia for US jobs. More importantly, Saudi Arabia has much less hold over global energy markets than it did in the past. But even with all that, the US relationship with Saudi Arabia is far too complex and embedded to be radically upended even by one egregious incident like this.

Similarly, with Russia, we hear discussions about whether Trump is too pro-Russia or pursuing US national interests. But again, this isn’t really the issue. We don’t want to take a reflexively hostile or militant stance in this conflict between Russia and Ukraine. (That applies across the board with Russia, an aggressive but fundamentally declining power.) The problem in both cases is that Trump appears to be pursuing some definition of his own personal interests over national interests. It’s not always clear just what that personal interest is, whether it is a narrow financial interest or some kind of threat-influence or whether he’s just been buttered up by the strongman in question. But it makes the conduct of US policy almost impossible to predict or trust.

With Russia, we have a President who is in some sense owned or dominated by the President of Russia. At the same time, the President has a national security team made up of more traditionally Republican Russia hawks and people temperamentally and ideologically inclined toward more confrontational approaches. That’s not a great recipe for good policy making. More importantly, it’s a great way to produce catastrophic misunderstandings between the countries in question.

With Saudi Arabia, Trump’s obsequiousness and toadying obscures the fact that no President would or would be in a position to cut ties with Saudi Arabia over Khashoggi’s murder. The country needs a President to pursue a foreign policy not only because the country needs a foreign policy (obvious) but because it needs a set of comprehensible strategies and policies that public discussion can react to and pivot off of. Not everyone agreed with President Obama’s policies toward the Gulf monarchies and Iran. But outside of the conspiracy theory fever swamps, everybody understood that a set of policy assumptions and priorities were behind it. The same applies to … say, President Bush’s policy toward North Korea in the early aughts. With President Trump, on most fronts we have put up claims (half a trillion in investment from Saudi Arabia that can’t be squandered!!!) that simply do not match with the actions.

‘These children are barefoot. In diapers. Choking on tear gas’

A little girl from Honduras stares into the camera, her young features contorted in anguish. She’s barefoot, dusty, and clad only in a diaper and T-shirt. And she’s just had to run from clouds of choking tear gas fired across the border by U.S. agents.

A second photograph, which also circulated widely and rapidly on social media, shows an equally anguished woman frantically trying to drag the same child and a second toddler away from the gas as it spreads.

        • CNN Accused of Posting Fake Photo of Children ‘Fleeing’ Border Patrol Tear Gas

But, others noted that the photo was cropped in a certain way to exclude certain features that can be seen in the background.

Both cameramen seem to be posing these illegal aliens so that they can get better “action shots” of the people supposedly fleeing the gas shot at them by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Additionally, the larger photo shows that the smoke that seems more prominent in the cropped photo is actually just a small wisp in the un-cropped photo.

But you have to ask yourself this: if the gas was so bad, why were the cameramen standing there so calmly posing people?

          https://godfatherpolitics.com/cnn-posts-fake-photo-of-children-fleeing-border-patrol-tear-gas/

          • Let us explain that a camera captures a STILL image, and the references by the wingnut on his website means nothing. The mother and child were fleeing the gas, and nobody cares what the other idiots in the photo in the background were or were not doing.

BOTTOM LINE: Right-wingers and their hate for humanity is the modern decline of America

PS: The “writer” of that debacle of an article is Warner Todd Huston,
a wingnut and occasional writer for Breitfart.

Huston is most famous for his 2014 article for Breitfart where he reported that Loretta Lynch, Obama’s nominee for attorney general, had been part of Bill Clinton’s defense team during the Whitewater scandal. Apparently college didn’t teach Huston to do his homework. He also has a long history of arguing that kwanzaa is a fake holiday with a racist goal that is completely made-up, unlike other holidays which apparently weren’t made up, and we have no idea what the distinction amounts to.

      • The photo was taken and published by Reuters, one of the top news groups in the world. Portraying it as a hoax is just more right-wing lies

Viral photo of tear-gassed immigrants gets branded a hoax by far-right

The claim that this specific image is a hoax reveals a stark truth about Trump fans. In the same conservative circles, the U.S. defending its border with tear gas was met with cheers, and the use of tear gas was confirmed last night by Homeland Security head Kristjen Nielsen.

The photo debunk story made it up to the Gateway Pundit, a conservative blog, where it was branded as proof of a “HOAX,” saying it was nothing more than a photo op. But the same site published an article hours earlier saying the tear gas attack happened.
