The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE November 16, 2012

IS IT TRUE another American icon business has gotten approval from its board of directors to cease operations?…this time it is the Hostess Brands that has been supplying products like Twinkies and Ding-Dongs faithfully for well over 50 years?…on Nov. 12, Hostess Brands permanently closed three plants as a result of the work stoppage.?…on Nov. 14, the Company announced it would be forced to liquidate if sufficient employees did not return to work to restore normal operations by 5 p.m., EST p.m., Nov. 15?…that deadline came and went which put the board of directors in a position of making a decision that will put substantially all of its 16,500 employees out of work?…this is 16,500 paychecks that will now be going onto unemployment until their benefits have been used up?…that 850 of these workers are our fellow Hoosiers?…we wish this iconic American business and its workers a smooth transition to their next phase of life whatever that turns out to be?…the official statement is on the following link?
https://city-countyobserver.com/2012/11/16/hostess-brands-to-close-16500-jobs-face-elimination-850-are-hoosiers/

IS IT TRUE Alex Jarvis has advised the CCO that our Civic Center based Mole who said that Mr. Jarvis had inquired about becoming the next Chairman of the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party is not correct?…former Weinzapfel Administration Fire Chief and Evansville City Councilman Keith Jarboe has not come forward to deny what the Civic Center Mole reported about his intentions?…it seems as though the Civic Center Mole was at least half correct and that for today we will take Mr. Jarvis at his word that he has not sought that position in any way?

IS IT TRUE it seems as though nearly everyone who is asked is in favor of the City of Evansville going forward with hiring an independent auditor to do a deep dive into the finances of the City in view of the fact that the accounts have not been balanced in nearly two years and over a million bucks was misplaced without notice?…it is mystifying as to why two members of the Evansville City Council, namely Missy Mosby and Jonathan Weaver voted against learning some more details about the financial fiascos of 2011 and 2012?…this does not exhibit good judgment with respect to stewardship of the taxpayer’s money?…we encourage the constituents of these two council members to demand an explanation for these NO votes which do not seem to make any practical sense at all?

IS IT TRUE Mole # 16 tells us that the Winnecke Administration has quietly resubmitted a slightly smaller version of the Johnson Controls deal shoved through in the last hour by the Weinzapfel Administration last December?…the first try was turned down by State of Indiana authorities for not meeting the requirements for a “no cost” contract?…the CCO hopes that some independent auditors will get their hands on this resubmission to see if this one is as porous and indefensible as the first one was?…there are rumblings around town that the Winnecke Administration will be seeking to offer a subsidy of roughly $20 Million to whichever company turns out to be the winning bidder on the downtown Convention Hotel project?…it took 4 years and three false starts for the City of Evansville to come to this inconvenient reality that was published first in the City County Observer?…that most human beings can study and be granted a bachelor’s degree in four years but it took our City government four years of denial and over $100,000 in consultants fees to learn this lesson?…in any scholarly setting the local government would have been tossed out of school 3 years ago for multiple cases of academic probation?…we wait on pins and needle for the Executive Inn Dilemma and the McCurdy Debacle to finally come to a practical solution that could have easily been reached four years ago if financial competence was practiced in the Weinzapfel Administration?

  1. CCO showed class by correcting yesterday post on Alex Jarvis.
Sorry to hear that Alex isn’t interested in the Demo party Chairmenship because he would had made a great one!

  2. I agree with the blogger comments on Jarvis.

Thanks CCO for correcting your mistake you made on Mr. Jarvis in yesterday edition.

  3. I also hope the comments in CCO is also wrong about Keith Jarboe may be interested in becoming the next democratic party chairmen. I have had enough of his political games when he was City Councilmen and Evansville Fire Chief.

What really did me in with him when he got involved in the back door “Homestead Tax Credit” deal along with Marsha Abell, present and past Mayors and Curt John.

    • Wow! That was along time ago. You need to turn loose of that one. Everybody makes a mistake now and then. How about you? Made any? Do you like yourself?

      • Sorry, not going to let go of the “Homestead Gate” this was/is a “window” on how these Political Animals think. Was the mistake the fact they got caught? Or, are you saying that They apparently thought it was the “right” thing to do, and not a poor political power play? The Disaster that was/is the legacy of the King Weinzapfel Administration, is still to be revealed in it’s entirety.

  4. Firemen will not support Jarboe as Chairman of the party. Jarboe is a hot tempered control freak who got what he has by inheriting political privilege and sucking up to Weinzapfel. He is not a healer. He is a divider.

    • Considering there are only 2 firemen that are commiteemen I think that your statement is moot.

  5. Good riddance to those 18,500 Teamster parasites. Hopefully someone buys the assets at auction and reintroduces the “Union Free Twinkie”.

I the the damn thing will even taste better.

Is there not some kind of turpentine we can give these union-riddled companies so they can crap out the parasitic tapeworm dragging them down?

  6. Unions are also a parasite on Local Government. Jarboe being one of them. I just saw Ms. Collins running around the Civic Center. Saw Rumplebeancounter who looked like he slept in his suit again last night. It’s really sad that the local media did all they could to cover up Auditgate. Jenny should be facing criminal charges instead she’s over at the Utilities messing up their records. I guess the C&P and 14 will live with the fact that it was Software’s fault and the Board of Accounts because how dare they call them out on not doing their jobs?

    • Companies like the C&P and 14 will NEVER give you true, in-depth, investigative reporting on anything. Why? Because it’s a relatively small town and the number of entities capable of running advertisements to keep them in the game is ever-diminishing. To do investigative reporting risks stepping on someone’s toes and poses a threat of lost revenue.

Unless you’re trying to figure out where the next church rummage sale will be or how your children are under threat from trick or treat candy, best not to count on those media entities for much.

  7. It’s funny that in the latest CCO poll, the option to cut $1.2 trillion is winning overwhelmingly, yet we rejected Ron Paul as a candidate for President. His plan was the only plan that clearly did that by the end of year one.

His cuts included shutting down overseas military bases, eliminating FIVE cabinet level departments, and cutting all foreign aid.

The bottom line is, Americans are on the whole very much like the Teamster parasites who brought down their own Hostess… They have two modes – suck and blow. We deserve the disaster that’s coming.

  8. Today’s CCO poll could use either more options or a broader range of politics within the 4 options given. As it’s presented, the poll reveals a strong right leaning rather than a poll that seeks a broad based response.

I’m no economic expert. But I offer the following for discussion:

Raise the cap on social security tax from the current first $110K to the first $1Million.

Let the Bush tax cuts expire on earnings over the first $1Million rather than the first $250K.

Secure partial but significant repayment for the Iraqi war from the oil revenue that has been taken away from Saddam’s Bathist regime and given over to the Iraqi people.

Withhold foreign aid from regimes such as Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood unless they cooperate by using their influence in the Middle East to restrain Hamas firing missles into Israel, as an example.

Suspend nation building abroad, and redirect those funds to job-creating infrastructure improvements in the U.S.

    • If President Obama would have opened his discussions with your exact words we would have hope for a sustainable solution. Please forward this to the White House

    • Raising taxes in an economy like this is a recipe for disaster. Why discourage investment any further than it’s already been?

Give companies a reason to repatriate capital by lowering taxes as much as possible and simply reduce government spending till it hurts. Eliminate all penalties on repatriation of capital.

Government doesn’t produce anything. It just takes from productive citizens, so the concept of making it bigger, or balancing the already bloated budget just by raising taxes is misguided. It will deepen the problem. Reducing foreign aid is part of the solution, but there is not enough there to solve the much deeper problem.

I’m with you on cutting the foreign aid to dictatorial and hostile regimes, but I’d go one further and cut to EVERYBODY. There is no reason we should be subsidizing the defense of Germany or Israel. We’ve already supplied them with enough munitions to fend for themselves. They have more nuclear weapons courtesy of Uncle Sam than they’ll ever need – 300 – so I say it’s time to let Israel stand on its own two legs for a change. Shut down bases in places like Germany, Korea, and Japan. Why are we still fighting the Korean War?

Stealing more of the Iraqi people’s resources because we decided to invade their country is just…backward. How do you think we are in any way entitled to that? We need to just leave that country and let them take control of their own destiny, sink or swim. We also need to leave Iran alone and stop war posturing. We should shut down our bases in Saudi Arabia, which was the reason Bin Laden gave for 9/11 in the first place. Why should we be providing security for the oppressive Saudi Royal Family while promoting “democracy” in neighboring Iraq? It’s schizophrenic.

There are plenty of places we could cut the Federal bureaucracy, but I’d start with the EPA, Homeland Security, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, and the CIA.

Lastly, until we get our monetary system straight by eliminating the Federal Reserve’s monopoly control over the creation of money and credit, all the rest will be moot. Congress will continue to spend beyond its means if they know when the bills come due, they can simply print the money for them.

    • You should know by now the “editor” does all in his power to slant things as far right as possible. If they can put up a fake poll that slams anything from our President, they will. They love the “blame game”. Besides, the poll is meaningless anyway. It is just more right-wing propaganda by the “editor”

      • You must be dreaming. “Editor” is quite liberal on social issues, perhaps more so that CCO Truth Squad. “Editor” however does not think that either of us should have our wages and wealth confiscated to pay for cradle to grave social programs. “Editor” also does not believe that demonizing the 1%, 2%, or even the top 5% is constructive. “Editor” absolutely knows that letting the Bush tax cuts expire above $250,000 does not even come close to solving the deficit that is 1,400% more that the CBOE estimates it will raise.

  9. I appreciate the prompt correction. I would like point out something. I doubt that this mole is right on any points that they supposedly claimed regarding Jarboe as well. There is no reason for anyone to inquire with the Civic Center as to requirements for party chair. I have no clue who you would direct such a question to. A party election, is a private election and governed by the rules of the party itself, no government agency would have any jurisdiction over such a race. Both Jarboe and myself have been around politics long enough to know the party bylaws and rules and would not need to seek input from any office at the Civic Center were either of us considering such a run. I call into question this moles accuracy and wonder is it just not what i feel it to be, a complete lie.

    • Alex–You are 100 % correct on this issue. It is a little surprizing the CCO got sucked in on this one.

      • Johnboy, the continued inaccuracy of the CCO astounds me. One of the first things a real news organization does when given a tip is to contact the people named for confirmation and/or comment. That never heard from the CCO calls into question its chronic protestations of reputability. If the CCO seeks to be respected and accepted as an actual news agency I suggest they learn and adopt the standard of ethics in reporting and news gathering in place in that industry today and cease in passing on innuendo and invective as fact. A saying among news organizations is “if your mother says she loves you, check it out.” The CCO’s repeated inability to adopt this characteristic is what sets it apart from other media groups as a fledgling news blog run by washed up politicos with an ax to grind.

        • When you aren’t in trouble with the law, report to court when you have a warrant, and aren’t being yanked off a festival booth is when you can give lectures on doing the right thing. Nobody asked you to come here and quite frankly nobody wants you here. I’m more worried about how close you came to screwing up my party than I am about your loud mouth complaining about something stupid once more.

          • Although I personally find Alex’s actions to be reprehensible, I have to support his right to post here as he sees fit

        • The #1 reason why I am a card carrying member of the republican and conservative movements is personal responsibility. For Mark Owen to allow Jarvis to run wheely-neely thru his party should be solid proof to any nonbiased person that the Democrats are at an all-time low in this city. Is this the democrats poster boy for success?

        • I found this comment to be greatly amusing, particularly the part about how the CCO should “adopt the standard of ethics in reporting and news gathering in place in that industry today”. If by that you mean simply reprinting the Administration’s press releases and calling that “news”, I think you’ll find plenty of your fellow citizens who not only would disagree, but might suggest that practice has been responsible for a lot of the misinformation and propaganda of the past.

I don’t think the CCO tries to disguise the fact that the largest portion of their offerings are opinion editorials (op-eds) based on insider “mole” information which is sometimes correct and sometimes needs more investigation, hence the title of the regular offering, “Is It True”, followed by a series of questions pondering the truth of the information while simultaneously offering up some possible conclusions which could be drawn if indeed said information IS true.

The Editor of CCO makes no effort to hide his political leanings and invites healthy debate in the comments, in which many of us gladly partake.

For me, there is far more danger in a publication such as the Courier & Press, who, trading on its long history, and with an air and veneer of journalistic credibility, spread misleading or biased information under a guise of fairness and neutrality.

  10. Brad Linzy: Please be correct if you are going to post. It was NOT the Teamsters that voted to strike, It was the Bakers……please look this up and correct yourself to lend some credibility to your posts. Thanks
