IS IT TRUE? November 14, 2011 Evening Laughs and Condolences

IS IT TRUE all of the staff of the City County Observer are agreeing to stand in solidarity with the NBA players union?…that we all refuse to play basketball for less than a couple of million dollars per year?…that no matter how much they beg we are resolute not to even practice our free throws for less than $1 Million per season each?…that we won’t even answer their phone calls?

IS IT TRUE that Mole #3 called in from South Florida with a tip that Evansville City Councilwoman Missy Mosby is considering taking on Indiana State Representative Gail Riecken in the Democrat primary to punch her ticket to Indianapolis?…that we did have to ask Mole #3 if it had been adapting to the hard drinking lifestyle of South Florida as this was completely out of left field?…that we shall keep our local feelers out to see if there is any truth to Mole #3’s first contact in the last week?…that we think there may be some rum involved with this tip?

IS IT TRUE that excluding the well rehearsed and presented words of Vectren Corporation president and CEO Carl Chapman that we will address in the morning that tonight’s meeting of the Evansville City Council made the meetings regarding racing pigeons look rational?…that there was a 45 minute discussion on changing the zoning so a man that has an 8 bedroom house could put a mother in law apartment on his property?…that he must not have wanted his mother in law within 7 bedrooms of where he sleeps because he was asking for rezoning to add another structure for them to live in?…that neighbors did not believe him and neither did the Evansville City Council because his request was shot down by a vote of 8 – 1?

IS IT TRUE that the last act of comedy at the Evansville City Council was brought to us courtesy of Jeff Day?…that Mr. Day was upset because there is a flag of Canada in the Ford Center to make the Canadian hockey players feel more at home?…that Mr. Day did seem to have a valid point that the City Council and the manager of VenuWorks, Mr. Scott Schoenike did not understand the proper protocol regarding he flying of the flags and that he entered an instruction into the record of the Evansville City Council?…that City Councilman Dr. H. Dan Adams took Mr. Day on and supported the tradition of flying Canadian flags in places where hockey is played?…that Mr. Day countered and we must say very effectively asking if we would be flying the Mexican flag if most of the players were Mexicans?…that at that point the President B. J. Watts took the first opportunity to close the discussion and adjourn the meeting?…that for those of us out in TV land who can read lips it was obvious that President Watts clearly said “that guy needs to shut the f#@% up” to City Clerk Alberta Matlock as they were leaving the desk?

IS IT TRUE that Schoenike is a three syllable word that is pronounced “Shay-Nuh-Kee” as opposed to “Shay-Nike” as Mr. Day pronounced his name?…that we encourage everyone in Evansville to learn how to pronounce Scott’s last name as it appears he will be here for as long as he likes if the attendance at the Ford Center continues as it has started?

IS IT TRUE that it was disclosed today that Stratman’s Pharmacy on Main Street will be closing tomorrow?…that as skeptical as we have been about the job creating capacity of the Ford Center we did not expect to see a closure of a business happen so soon?…that the people who have bought lofts really did need Stratman’s and that it is a blow to downtown living to see Stratman’s go?…that we do know John Stratman to be a good man and wish him peace and prosperity in his next phase of life?…that a superb restaurant that has lunch and dinner would work well in that location and we hope to be trying one out soon?…that this will be a big test of the attractive capacity of the Ford Center?

  1. John and the whole family are a class act. Thank you for helping out downtown as long as you did.

  2. “IS IT TRUE that Mole #3 called in from South Florida with a tip that Evansville City Councilwoman Missy Mosby is considering taking on Indiana State Representative Gail Riecken in the Democrat primary to punch her ticket to Indianapolis?…that we did have to ask Mole #3 if it had been adapting to the hard drinking lifestyle of South Florida as this was completely out of left field?…that we shall keep our local feelers out to see if there is any truth to Mole #3’s first contact in the last week?…that we think there may be some rum involved with this tip?”

I would like to go on record saying that I fully support Ms Mosby in this endeavor, if she will resign her spot on the city council to campaign 24/7 I’ll even donate to her campaign.

As Dakota Fred said on Gold Rush “she doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hell”, but then I’m still accustom to backing loosing candidates and mirecals

      • I’m right there with ya Blanger! I’d donate also. No chance in h*** she’d win against Gail.. Just get her out of here!

      • I bet Brad Ellsworth would donate too. Anything to get Gail’s thorn out of his side. We know Missy would be no trouble for him.

    • I think rum and sun had more to do with #3 call more than anything else. I don’t think Missy would ever consider a run against Gail. But that would be the only way you would get her out the council seat because you sure as hell can’t beat her.
      JMHO

      • LOL…she does add color and a amusement factor to the meetings, this is Evansville not Indy and it looks like the machine is all powerful and could not be stopped by anyone or anything.

I bow my head in reverence to the all mighty machine! amen!

        JMHO

        • I think it has more to do with the fact she works hard for the people in the 2nd ward. She goes to the neighborhood meetings year round not just when there is a election. I think if her name was Smith or Jones certin people wouldn’t be so negetive.
          JTFF

          • Negative is just their nature, Jack. If Lon had won, within two years they’d all be dissing him as bad or worse than they do Missy. But yes, if her name were anything but Mosby, they’d not have that single dart to throw over and over and over again.

          • Name recognition has little to do with my point of view, it’s more that every time she opens her mouth my BS meter pegs.

            JMHO

          • If she just wouldn’t “roll her eyes” when someone from the public talks! Watch her next time she’s in a public meeting. If someone speaks and she doesn’t like it, watch them eyes roll! Disrespectful I’d say!

  3. It sure didn’t take long for the arrogance of the Democratic Party Machine to kick a little guy making a valid point. Abusing Jeff Day is not going to win any respect for the Democratic Machine. Those of you who are upset that Davis lost the mayoral race need to go to your room and realize that the totalitarian Whiny-Zipple regime is slithering back into the slimy hole from which it emerged in 2003.

And as for Alberta Matlock and B-J Watts, you lost the mayor’s office, live with it, Ya Jerks!

  4. Once again, your information is completely false. Mole #3, you probably should lay off the bottle and do a little bit more homework and research before you post such rumors!

  5. I think Vectren’s powerpoint presentation was very effective….it took the wind out of their sails, and set the tone for the questions from the council (basically wore them out), John Friend was more interested in reliving his college days and making it known he knew the ins and outs of their audit processes than holding their feet to the fire…

Kinda’ like a couple collage buddy’s having a drink and reminiscing.

    JMHO

  6. I want to know who authorized putting a canadian flag in the Ford Center?

I want to know who authorized putting a canadian flag in the Ford Center?

Oh, oh, oh, momma say, momma say, my momma say that, my momma say that, my momma say that…

    LOL.

  7. Blanger

Your bs meter must really go off the chart when you read most
of these unsigned.post on this site. Never have been able to understand
why someone would say hateful things about people but don’t have the guts to sign their
    name.
    Jack. Waldroup

    • Jack…

I do understand and agree, but it’s the nature and spirit of the CCO, it’s purpose is to allow people to voice their opinions anonymously without reprisal, of course it does allow for toadies to spout their BS unabated…but really they are easy to pick out and at times add amusement to the mix.

There are good reasons for people to post anonymously, case in point a lot of info was posted pre-election that would have never came out without the anonymous factor, it really goes with the mole theme and “Is It True” topics.

      Of course this is JMHO

      • Blanger
Now you have my BS meter going off. I read what people have said about elected officals families. What good does that do for anyone except for the coward who won’t sign their name. Do you have a position that you could face reprisal for any of your post. I hold no position where I could punish anyone for what they about me and there have been some dandies. I guess we agree to disagree. Jack Waldroup

        • Fair enough….and yes I am in a position where reprisal is possible, any business owner that does business with the city of Evansville always has that opportunity, just as businesses are rewarded for patronage other are penalized for none-patronage. Thankfully my exposure in that regard is minimal but in this economic climate no business can afford to loose any customer no matter how small or slight the customer contribution may be.

I can safely bet if I posted my name I would be sought out and would loose what little business I now do for the city.

While I do agree that attacking a politician’s family is way out of line, the politician themselves are open to any and all criticize while holding a public office, if their skin is too thin they should find another line of work.

          Again it is JMHO

  8. Someone should let Mr. Day know a few facts since his statements indicate that he is uneducated when it comes to Canada:

    1) That is not a Canadian Flag in Ford Center, it’s a Banner. The Maple Leave is pointed in the wrong direction.

    2) I have never visited a Hockey Arena in the US or Canada that didn’t have a Canadian flag AND a US flag.

    3) Indiana-Canada trade is roughly 12.3 Billion as of 2009, and that trade accounts for over 162,000 jobs in Indiana (roughly 4%)

    http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/washington/commerce_can/2010/in.aspx?lang=eng

Please ask Mr. Day to count up those Zero’s and get back to me.

    • Well said. A few years ago, I paid a visit to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Inside the ACC they too have an American flag that not only is as prominent as the Canadian flag, but it was just as big as well. Of course, all of the Canadians around me were asking the ACC official why that was and couldn’t believe it and then complaining to me not knowing I was American.

The official told them the same thing that was told to Day down here. Hockey is a CanAm sport. When you have a league that is in more than one country, it is only respectful that you treat each country equally. Although the home court/ice may be in one country or another the overall league is in both. Although the CHL is not in Canda itself, it is affiliated with leagues that are.

We saw in the case American Needle vs NFL that a league should be treated as one entity with an anti-trust exemption, not as a sum of teams competing against each other.

When you have a team from Canada coming here to play hockey, that is when you know your arena is a success as this will be proof that your team and arena are putting your city on a global scale, not just a regional or even national scale.

      • Also, there are 13 Canadians on the Evansville IceMen.

If anything Ford Center needs to take that banner down and put a proper Canadian Flag up.
