IS IT TRUE? November 12, 2011

IS IT TRUE that another officer of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party has resigned his position?…that Adam Schaaf, the Democrat Party Committeeman for Precinct 2-1 tendered his resignation to Party Chairman Mark Owen citing the behavior of local Democrat Party leaders with respect to insider attacks on the Davis for Mayor campaign as reason for his resignation?…that Mr. Schaaf’s resignation letter addressed to Chairman Owen included the following paragraph?

“I certainly hope that Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker moves swiftly with a full investigation of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party. In closing, as a Democrat, I remain committed to upholding central Democratic values within our community. I wish the best to ALL of the Democrat winners on the ballot in 2011 the in their quest to represent our fair city and they remain committed to moving our city forward. I will look forward to a time when I may serve my fellow citizens again.”

IS IT TRUE that even though Evansville City Councilwoman Elect Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley did not share her reasons for her own resignation from the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party we know her to also be a person who is as Mr. Schaaf, “committed to upholding Democrat values within our community”?…that during the campaign one of the things that the CCO learned about Councilwoman Elect Riley is that she is a person of pure convictions and that she through her own deliberations has chose to further the political positions of the Democrat Party?…that we never caught her in a falsehood or a dirty trick toward her equally virtuous but ideologically different Alan Leibundguth?

IS IT TRUE that people who enter politics from a place of conviction founded on thoughts, all deserve respect and that we came during the campaign to greatly respect both Councilwoman Elect Riley and Mr. Leibundguth?…that it is people like these two who are different yet grounded that can make government work?…that our expectations for both of the 3rd Ward candidates was that they would be true to their ideology and would never alter their fundamental beliefs for political convenience?…that the CCO wishes Councilwoman Elect Riley success as a member of our City Council and would welcome her explanation for resigning from the local Democrat Party but will respect her decision to keep that information private if she chooses to do so?…that our opinion of her is that she will be part of the solutions needed for a better Evansville and that we will know where she stands based on who she is and not on who some political strongman tells her to be?

IS IT TRUE that we went from shorts and T-shirts on election day to coats and freezing within 48 hours?…that is the way fall is in SW Indiana and that we at the CCO are grateful for the warm weather that we have been able to enjoy 1/3 of the way into November?

IS IT TRUE that we are thankful that the news of shootings in the 4th Ward has come to a halt?…that we would like to commend the people of the 4th Ward and especially those in the community of faith who have stepped up to lead the effort to take back their neighborhoods?…that we are also thankful for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday and that we wish all of our readers a happy time with their families?…that everyone does not have the means for a good meal on Thanksgiving and that the CCO would like to encourage our readers to make a donation to the Evansville Rescue Mission to provide Thanksgiving meals for people among us who may be having a bad year?

  1. Ah, yes! The self-destruction of the Democratic Party continues apace from within! Thank you Stephanie for doing your part to turn the most cruel political machine in Indiana into pathetic joke.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the turkeys in the Democratic Party!

  2. _don’t worry the dumbocrats still have Connie + Weezy who were the most effective drones in this election, is any video floating around of them walking the voters of the 4th from their cars to the voting booth and walking them back to their cars after voting? anyone have a clue what the numbers 3-4 mean?

  3. Rick won the 4th ward! Connie and Weezy don’t speak for everyone! No one is just alike!

    • Poor little Sadie Mae. Are you still feeling left out of the circle of Democrat Chamberdames?

    • By how much did Rick win the 4th ward. Most years Democrats win the ward by 1,000 votes. Anyone have those numbers.

  4. It should be noted that Adam was not an officer just a precinct committeeman. It was his legal obligation to resign as soon as he moved. He resigned the day after the election even though he had moved out of his precinct quite a bit before the election. Not very upstanding citizen in my book. Very dishonest and shady. He resigned because he was in violation of the law for awhile. Schaafs actions are just sour grapes. This is the same guy a year ago who contacted democrats in an attempted coup d’ etat against Mark Owen with the idea of he being named Chairman.

    • the lady who won the democratic precinct comitteeperson at this year’s unpaid for Jefferson/Jackson Dinner represents a precinct in the second ward and lives in the county per the announcement made that evening. WIsh I could remember her name but I bet someone could check that out

  5. Adam was never an officer and broke the bylaws by not resigning when he moved. He resigned the day after the election when there was proof he had vacated his precinct many months before. Typical Davis supporter if you ask me.

    • Well then you must certainly be discussing gossip overheard from Councilwoman Mosby. Furthermore,it is no secret he was highly disgruntled with many actions by Chairman Owen and entertained the idea mentioned, but to say he contacted Democrats is quite the farce. In fact, the only one he did discuss it with was Alex Jarvis who told him if he wanted it to happen to call the 8th District Chair. That call was never made. Furthermore, Mr. Schaaf did inquire about resigning his position after moving but was advised that moving did not necessarily require a resignation. Bad advice, fair enough. The resignation was immediately tendered after a bully phone message from Mr. Jarvis. In addition, state law allows a citizen to vote in their former precinct 30 days following a move. Thus, I can assure you no laws were broken. Now, if you want to ask me, the above posts are typical machine-thug lingo. Or what you are told to say, huh Alex?

  6. “I certainly hope that Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker moves swiftly with a full investigation of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party”.

AMEN… Where are you Mr. Parker?

      • Dan Parker is too busy trying to compose his next solicitation email to Vanderburgh County Democrats. He needs to recoup his huge losses after throwing away so much good money after bad. Poor Dan just can’t figure out exactly what to say when asking his old pals for money after he threatened to ostracize them.

  7. The gamble by the ex-mayor, della, Jarvis lackeys and Weaver toadies, disloyal Central Committee members and other insiders looks like it may pay off. All Democratic candidates won except for Mr. Davis, which they not only crippled but openly opposed. Mr. Gregg wants $$ to try to be Governor and the ex-mayor has $750,000 and he gives $$ to Gregg if nothing happens to little Chicago here. After nothing happens here, the local Democratic machine stays in complete power unless Mr. Davis quickly makes the one and only game changing move they gamble he won’t figure out.

      • Republican County Clerk Susan Kirk will run for Treasurer because she is term-limited from winning Clerk again. The Weinzapfel/Owen/Jarvis/Robinson/Mosby insiders very much want Mr. Davis to run against her. Ms. Kirk is an excellent Republican candidate. She will beat Mr. Davis in a general election because she is very popular with the voters AND the disloyal Central Committee insiders will again work against him. What they fear is for Mr. Davis to recognize this and run for a different office against a far less formidable Republican candidate. Remember, Mr. Davis with his supporters will win any Democratic primary, just like they beat Mr. Tornatta. Mr. Davis can be beat in a general election by the unusual combination of a strong Republican candidate with good name recognition (Mr. Winnecke, Ms. Kirk or Mr. Lloyd) AND the opposition from the Democratic Central Committee insiders which appear will remain in power.

          • blanger, wish this theory was my idea, but it’s not. It came from someone in the know about the Central Committee insiders. Their goal is for Mr. Davis to lose the general election for Treasurer. Then they win as his rebellion was finally crushed. Since Mr. Davis is convinced he lost because of vote centers, it looks like he will fall into their plan.

          • Lost because of the vote centers? Gosh, Democrats seemed to have found there way to the vote centers to elect the other 9 Democrat candidates. If Rick were to settle in as Treasurer for another 4 years, he might then run and be elected to another county office, like Recorder, for another 8 years and have a nice 20-year government retirement in his pocket.

            But youth is impatient.

          • blanger, until Mr. Davis finally understands the vote centers had nothing to do with his loss, he plays right into the disloyal Central Committee insider’s plan that he loses the Treasurer’s office next fall.

          • As they say…pay backs are hell!

Thanks for the insight Joe, I had no doubt that the machine would retaliate in some way for Mr Davis’s insubordination. Maybe someone will clue him in.

          • Vote centers or not, dismal voter turnout is what made the election what it was, it would appear everyone who wanted to vote got the chance to.

I’ve talked to several people who walked for different candidates all said they were well received by most of the people they approached, and were told by most that they either would be voting or had already voted absentee…

Thing is…the numbers just don’t jive, if everyone who said they were going to vote did, turn out would have at least been 40%. I just don’t understand people.

            JMHO

          • People lie. If you’re a businessman, you should know this. The lesson here may be that we can’t believe what you say because you’re repeating thing you believe when you’re hearing them from liars.

        • Anyone who expects honesty from a politician is naive at the least or stupid at best, lies, deceit, treachery, are all part of the political game they play all the wile smiling and making promises (to the public) they know they will never keep for the sake of patronage or monetary gain.

To enter into politics you are either corrupt or will be by the time you leave office, there are exceptions but they are few and very far between. While this is the viewpoint of most citizens in the USA it is also the major cause of voter apathy, the feeling that all politicians are corrupt and that they will only replace the devil they know with the devil they don’t know…who could very well be worse.

          JMHO

          • Politicians are no different than businessmen. What you describe as a politician, I’ve seen the same thing in businessmen every day. They’re either busy buying a politician off, or trying to figure a way to milk the last penny out of a deal.

          • There are differences between business and government, basically you as a consumer do in almost every case have a choice as to who you deal with in business dealings, in government…not so much. 😉

If you feel your not being treated right at Walmart there are many other options open to you, same can be said for almost every other product you buy…but not government.

In our little burg…Vectren would be the exception.

            JMHO

          • Same goes for politics and government. If you are not satisfied with a liar’s sales pitch, don’t vote for him. If you are alarmed by the liar’s political support, initiate a campaign to prevent the liar’s election. If the liar wins and becomes a corrupt government official, initiate impeachment proceedings.

Since you seem unable to do any of these things, I guess you’ll have to satisfy your anguish by constantly posting nonsense like “to enter into politics you are either corrupt or will be by the time you leave office,” and comparing inbumbent administrations and government officials to Walmart or banana republic dictators.

By the way, as a businessman, how do you find so much time to spend as the City County Observer’s most prolific and chronic blogger?

          • LOL…yes don’t vote for the lairs, we just witnessed how that worked out, while one vote is important…it is still just one vote which is all I have to offer. I do get the impression that you do not believe that there isn’t any corruptness in our city government, or that the level of corruptness is acceptable?

As to my stature in my business, after 35+ years on the same job the youngsters would just as soon I stayed in my office and let them do their jobs, my position after all these years allows me to sit at a desk and coordinate/troubleshoot operations which is fine with me.

BTW thank you for the title…”most prolific and chronic blogger” as a hobby the CCO provides many hours of enjoyment for this old guy. 😉

Had a good friend from Bicknell In run for city council 12 yrs ago. Lost by 800-900 votes. Came home a few days later and told his wife he wanted a recount. She reminded him he lost by a large margin. He said he knew but everyone in town said they voted for him. Who ya gona trust. People are going to tell you what they think you want to hear.

        • In other cases, the people don’t trust who they’re talking to. Think about it. They read all these horrible things in the C&P and CCO blogs about what treacherous backstabbing trickery goes on, and then they see these strangers at the door asking personal questions about politics. Well, you take it from there.
