1. Right-Wing Wants To Execute “Traitors” and Trump To Send Bikers to “Round Up” Obama & Hillary

   After the Mueller report, which was summarized by cover-up specialist Attorney General Bill Barr, several news sources have said that Trump plans to go after his enemies including President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

   He’s being egged on by right-wing media figures such as conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who suggested violence and death on his show “Infowars” and called for “traitors” like Rachel Maddow to be executed

   “If you’re found guilty of treason, and they want me to kick the switch to open that trapdoor and drop your neck down and snap that son of a bitch, I swear to God I’ll pull those levers all day”

   Right-wing talk show host Michael Savage suggested ignoring the Rule of Law

   “Now this Russia witch hunt hoax is finally over, Trump needs to go after people who attempted to illegally remove him. I suggest he assign the bikers to round up Hillary and Obama. We can’t trust the FBI because it’s full of liberals”

2. The addition and expansion that KC Chesser has built on West Franklin is amazing and will be very successful at bringing other development to West Franklin. It is tragic that this could not have been solved years ago when he made the plans for the former Harley Davidson building. The BZA should NEVER have allowed a competitor to stack the hearing testimony against what KC was planning. I am very happy they got it done, but it should NEVER have been delayed as it was over the supposed parking issue

3. Thank goodness and hallelujah, there’s another bar on west Franklin Street. I was so afraid that space was going to be wasted on something not glamorous, like Thomas Shoes or Paul’s or Southwest Graphics. We dodged a bullet on that one.

4. As Russia collusion fades, Ukrainian plot to help Clinton emerges

   We now have strong evidence that retired British spy Christopher Steele began his quest in what ultimately became the infamous Russia collusion dossier with a series of conversations with top Justice Department official Bruce Ohr between December 2015 and February 2016 about securing evidence against Manafort.

   We know the FBI set up shop in the U.S. embassy in Kiev to assist its Ukraine–Manafort inquiry — a common practice on foreign-based probes — while using Steele as an informant at the start of its Russia probe. And we know Clinton’s campaign was using a law firm to pay an opposition research firm for Steele’s work in an effort to stop Trump from winning the presidency, at the same time Steele was aiding the FBI.

   Those intersections, coupled with the new allegations by Ukraine’s top prosecutor, are reason enough to warrant a serious, thorough investigation.

     The Republican efforts to get Hillary Clinton when they controlled Congress has backfired and will hurt Trump‘s effort to bury the Mueller report

     The Judiciary Committee said Republicans efforts over the last two years to force the public release of elements of the Russia probe, as well as the investigation of Hillary Clinton‘s email server, had armed Democrats with an argument to require significant disclosure of the Mueller findings. It undermines any argument Barr might want to make that there’s longstanding precedent

     House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff stated “In the last Congress, the Justice Department provided over 880,000 pages of discovery of evidence to the Republican Congress in the answer to subpoenas that in an investigation that the Clinton e-mail investigation in which no one was indicted. Information was given Congress about Hillary Clinton, Bruce Orr, Andy Mccabe, Lisa Page Peter Strzok, and more. For the department to maintain they never provide information in cases that doesn’t result in an indictment is simply not true and 880,000 pages demonstrate that”

     The bogus Hillary Clinton email investigation is the groundwork for the DOJ to be forced to release the Meuller report. Because Republicans got the DOJ to release so much evidentiary material when the GOP controlled House investigations, it is poetic justice that the House Republican abuse of power in the Clinton email investigation is about to come back to haunt them and provide the ammo needed to get the Mueller report released

     Republicans can thank Paul Ryan, Devin Nunes, and the rest of the Republican House when Mueller‘s report is made public, and voters get to see his findings about Trump

   America’s 233-Year-Old Shock at Jihad

   Exactly 233 years ago this week, two of America’s founding fathers documented their first exposure to Islamic jihad in a letter to Congress; like many Americans today, they too were shocked at what they learned.

   Context: in 1785, Muslim pirates from North Africa, or “Barbary,” had captured two American ships, the Maria and Dauphin, and enslaved their crews. In an effort to ransom the enslaved Americans and establish peaceful relations, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams — then ambassadors to France and England respectively — met with Tripoli’s ambassador to Britain, Abdul Rahman Adja. Following this diplomatic exchange, they laid out the source of the Barbary States’ hitherto inexplicable animosity to American vessels in a letter to Congress dated March 28, 1786:

   We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the grounds of their [Barbary’s] pretentions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation. The ambassador answered us that it was founded on the laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise…

   It should be noted that centuries before setting their sights on American vessels, the Barbary States of Muslim North Africa — specifically Tripoli, Algiers, Tunis — had been thriving on the slave trade of Christians abducted from virtually every corner of coastal Europe — including Britain, Ireland, Denmark, and Iceland. These raids were so successful that, “between 1530 and 1780 there were almost certainly a million and quite possibly as many as a million and a quarter white, European Christians enslaved by the Muslims of the Barbary Coast,” to quote American historian Robert Davis….

   The punishments these European slaves received for real or imagined offenses beggared description: “If they speak against Mahomet [blasphemy], they must become Mahometans, or be impaled alive. If they profess Christianity again, after having changed to the Mahometan persuasion, they are roasted alive [as apostates], or thrown from the city walls, and caught upon large sharp hooks, on which they hang till they expire.”…

   Eaton eventually managed to reach and conquer Tripoli’s coastal town of Derne on April 27, 1805. Less than two months later, on June 10, a peace treaty was signed between the U.S. and Tripoli, formally ending hostilities.

   Thus and despite the (rather ignorant) question that became popular after 9/11, “Why do they hate us?” — a question that was answered to Jefferson and Adams 233 years ago today — the United States’ first war and victory as a nation was against Muslims, and the latter had initiated hostilities on the same rationale Muslims had used to initiate hostilities against non-Muslims for the preceding 1,200 years.

       Cook County, Illinois, prosecutors dropped 16 felony charges against left-wing Hollywood actor Jussie Smollett on Tuesday based on his prior record of community service.

       That record reportedly consisted of 18 hours’ volunteering for Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition on Saturday and Monday.

       We’re told Jussie’s “service” included stuffing membership envelopes, working in the group’s bookstore to sell merchandise … and critiquing its Saturday broadcast. We’re told he helped them with camera angles, and also worked with the music director on a plan to build the choir.

6. Did America Declare “War On Islam” In Barbary Wars? NOPE, Right Wing BS

   The 1797 treaty between America and Tripoli (Barbary) specifically proves your article is crap: “as the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen (Muslims) and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan (Mohammedan or Muslim) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries”

   Countries paid hefty monetary “tributes” in the early 1800s to the north African powers in order to get free passage for their ships. Countries that refused would risk being boarded, with crew members held hostage and cargo confiscated

   The United States initially paid the tribute, but after Jefferson became president in he rejected Tripoli’s demand for payment. Tripoli countered by declaring war on the United States, and Jefferson sent forces to the Mediterranean. After sporadic combat hostilities ended with a negotiated settlement in which the United States paid a smaller tribute than had initially been demanded

   Not only did the United States never officially “declare war” against any of the Barbary powers, but historians of the period also say that religion was NOT a factor in the Barbary Wars

   “Very little of this had to do with Islam,” said Adrian Tinniswood, “author of Pirates of Barbary: Corsairs, Conquests, and Captivity in the Seventeenth-Century Mediterranean”

   Robert Davis, author of “Christian Slaves, Muslim Masters: White Slavery in the Mediterranean, the Barbary Coast, and Italy” went so far as to slam the Islam portrayal as the reason for the Barbary Wars as “so riddled with errors, bad logic, and innuendo that I have to wonder why you feel called upon to critique it”

   “The Chicago police department has a lot to answer for in other cases, so it is hard to be sympathetic to their case. I think that all of us, have to acknowledge that people get breaks all the time, and it is very often people who are wealthy or powerful. That is very often correlated to race in America”

   “What’s happened here is that the glove was turned inside out, and the person with the wealth and the power was black. It is ticking people off for that reason”

   Blow noted that “there are hundreds of thousands of people right now in local jails” who have never been convicted of a crime, simply because they can’t pay bail

   “Jussie has the privilege of being able to say “the case is over, you keep the bail to help Chicago” and makes it appear the whole system is a mockery because it is corrupted by money and power”

10. White/Right Terrorism – Ignored By Racists

    Americans should react to violence from religious and ethnic minorities with the same sense of proportion they reserve for far-right extremists

    Trump regularly invokes violent crises perpetrated by scary foreigners. The announcement of his candidacy began with the declaration that Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists” as he called for a ban on Muslims coming to the United States after an isis-inspired attack in California. In his border-wall address, he pointed to crimes committed by unauthorized immigrants, whose victims were bludgeoned to death, beheaded, or stabbed, to argue for the necessity of the wall. But there’s one spike in violence that the president rarely acknowledges or even mentions, and it’s the rise in far-right terror that has accompanied his ascension to the White House

    In January the Anti-Defamation League released a report finding that attackers with ties to right-wing extremist movements killed at least 50 people in 2018. That was close to the total number of Americans killed by domestic extremists, meaning that the far right had an almost absolute monopoly on lethal terrorism in the United States last year

    The number of fatalities is 35 percent higher than the previous year, and it marks the fourth-deadliest year for such attacks since 1970. According to the ADL, white supremacists are responsible for the majority of such attacks “almost every year” per data. The 2018 attacks include the one at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue by a man who blamed Jews for the migrant caravan, the mass shooting at a yoga studio by an “incel” obsessed with interracial dating, and the school massacre in Parkland carried out by a student who wished that “all the Jews were dead”

    From 2009 through 2018, right-wing extremists accounted for 73 percent of such killings. In other words, MOST TERRORIST ATTACKS IN THE UNITED STATES, AND MOST DEATHS FROM TERRORIST ATTACKS ARE CAUSED BY WHITE EXTREMISTS

    When white extremists kill, politicians do not demand that they be racially profiled. They do not call for bans on white people coming to the United States. They do not insist that white people’s freedom of movement be restricted, their houses of worship be surveilled, their leaders be banned from holding public office, or their neighborhoods be “secured” and occupied by armed agents of the state. And they do not demand that taxpayers foot the bill for a massive, symbolic monument that will register America’s official disdain for white people in perpetuity

    It would be immoral to collectively punish white people for the actions of a few extremists, and it would only raise the stature of those extremists, partially legitimize their grievances in the eyes of potential followers, and strengthen their ability to recruit future operatives for further attacks. But that’s not the reason none of those things happen. They don’t happen because as America’s largest demographic group, white people have the political power and influence to prevent such proposals from even being contemplated. This is a form of political correctness so powerful that it shapes behavior without being mentioned or publicly acknowledged. It is simply the way things work

    By contrast, when religious or ethnic minorities commit such acts, they are seen not as individual extremists, but as representative of the groups to which they belong. As such, collective punishment is believed to be justified. This is how American bigotry works: White Christians are simply individuals, while everyone else is vulnerable to demonization by demagogues prepared to exploit the fear of those who are different in exchange for political power

    The correct response to the rise in right-wing terrorism is not a panic that mirrors those that accompany terrorist attacks by religious or ethnic minorities. It is to extend the same benefit of the doubt, the same proportionate, measured response with which Americans meet attacks from right-wing extremists, to attacks of all sorts. It is to recognize that the constitutional rights of minorities are no less inviolable than the constitutional rights of white Americans and that anyone who would run on a platform of disregarding those rights is not fit to hold public office
