IS IT TRUE JUNE 30, 2015

IS IT TRUE that At-Large City Council Candidate Alex Burton was approached by a member of the “Weaver For Council” campaign committee to have a joint campaign fundraiser? …Candidate Burton declined the offer? …could the motive included Alex in a joint political fundraiser that would help attract 4th Ward voters to support Weaver? …it would be the smart political move for Mr. Weaver to also include City Council President Dr. Dan Adams in this fundraising event?

IS IT TRUE we are completely amazed with the sheer number of votes cast in our recent non-scientific poll, but trendy, “READERS POLL”? …we have decided to leave it up for another of day so you and your friends can participate in this poll?

IS IT TRUE that we were sent an e-mail between the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Steve Schaefer and Sarah Schuler the Project Manager for the embattled Downtown Convention Hotel? …after reading the attached e-mail, its looks like the information provided to the CCO over 3 weeks ago on the Heating and Air units are spot on? …it looks like the local Union Sheet Metal workers are getting the short end of the economic stick because of the decision of putting in room H/C units in the Convention Hotel? …bottom line is Central H/A units will require more sheet metal work than in-room units? …we are hearing predictions this decision will cut the entire sheet metal work done on this project between 40% to 50%?

IS IT TRUE we have attached the e-mail for your review and comments?

Steve,

To follow up on the question of mechanical system for the new Doubletree Hotel, I reached out to Butler, Rosenbury, and they provided the attached cutsheet. The system has changed from a central system to packaged units. Currently, Amana unit that is the Basis of Design, but may not be the manufacturer that is ultimately installed depending on final bidding results. These are vertical terminal air conditioners (VTAC) versus the packaged terminal air conditioners (PTAC). VTACs are installed in small closets behind the walls instead of under the window as PTACs are installed. Butler, Rosenbury confirmed that they are Hilton approved. It is hard to compare this unit to the unit that was observed to know how the noise will differ.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
A you,
Sarah A. Schuler, AIA

IS IT TRUE we hear from reliable sources that St. Ben may have additional money missing from their coffers? …we reported last week that St. Ben allegedly has about $150,000 to $165,000 missing? …we now are being alleged there may be additional money missing from two additional accounts? …it’s now being alleged that the total missing funds may go well over $400,000? …we wonder when the mass media is going to report on this situation?

IS IT TRUE that a city employee is allowed to store his Barbeque Smokers/Grills at the City Maintenance garage? …we consider this practice to be bad public policy? …we wonder what City Council member this employee is related too?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why Missy Mosby,  Jim Brinkmeyer and Laura Brown Windhorst  and Democratic Party Chairman  Rob Faulkner didn’t attend the Gail Riecken political event at Marina Point last Saturday?  …Weaver dropped by for a few minutes and walked down to the TIKI BAR to have a few?  .,, many loyal Democrats are now questioning if they are quietly working for Winnecke re-election campaign?

    • right below Marina Pointe….just down the gang plank…on the water at the entrance to Inland Marina.

    • On the water at inland marina. It’s basically two barges tied together with a small Yard Barn built on top and then it’s all tied up at the end of the boat docks. Boats can pull up and enjoy a beverage at the Tiki Bar. I’ve seen pictures of at least 5 boats tied to each other and then to the side of the barge. I guess they had to hope from boat to boat to get to the barge and then again to get back to the last boat.

  1. If you mean the roof top bar . . . no cigar . .however, Inland Marina appears to have open it’s own Tiki watering hole . . this hotel deal kinda reminds me of the movie “Vacation” starring Chevy Chase . . remember when he was going to pick up his new coach van to travel to Wally World and instead of the Coach they rolled out the station wagon . . .well instead of Cadillac which we purchased Winnecke & Company will be rolling the station wagon but costing us 3.5 million additional dollars . . .

    • The cIty council has the power of the purse but is afraid to use it. Three words come to mind when considering the city council and how they have been rolled on the hotel deal. Bawk, Bawk, Bawk.

    • Thanks for info on the Tiki Bar. Will have to try it some evening. MSD, there are not enough trees in Bee Slough. Here are alternative ideas for a nostalgic downtown hotel with tram service to nearby attractions and City Council meetings. The guy that pedals the purple rickshaw in Civic Center parking lot during concerts at the Ford Center could also provide ricksaw rides for hotel guests.

  2. Through hole HVAC units are the hallmark of Fares Avenue motels and low rent apartments.

    • They also have little effective filtration or allergen isolation capabilities in comparison to building environmental ambient recycle per constant positive CFM and filtration. Typical to the Fares avenue crab shacks. Like we’ve said before the noise component is invasive as well. “Rumbling rooms ” lyrics set to the classic music of Nat King Cole and the classic rendition of “Rambling Rose”……. …… Trust “@ bandana” or “brains Benton” for the rewrite, however, I could play the score and most likely sing the lyric as well. Who’s gonna cling to ” rumbling rooms”…. 🙂

      • No way to put the monotonous drone of a fan motor to key. Not mathematically possible.

I’ve stayed in rooms with these torture devices. Caught in the purgatory of uncomfortable room temps or the drone of the fan motor. Ugggh

        • New Jerseys governor announces a run for the presidency ……Meah, a bridge too far……………

    • Joe, if I read Sarah Schuler’s eMail correctly (and that’s hard to do as she’s an architect and not an Engineer) BOTH VTAC units and PTAC units are under consideration. I suspect one will be bid as a Base Bid item and the other will be an Alternate Bid item. This is a typical VPS Architecture technique.

  3. I have looked at many photos of Double-tree hotels and have not seen any with HVAC units showing on the exterior of the rooms.

  4. I’m having a difficult time understanding Sarah Schuler’s eMail. Maybe it’s because she’s an architect (VPS Architecture) and I’m an Engineer. I get the part where she says that the central HVAC system is out but then she goes on to describe both VTAC and PTAC units. VTAC units are installed in mechanical spaces in each room, PTAC units are installed as through-the-wall (usually under a window) units (usually a combination heating/cooling/ventilation unit and most likely a reverse cycle heat pump). What her eMail says is that BOTH types of units are approved by DoubleTree/Hilton. It doesn’t actually confirm which type of unit will be utilized and leads me to believe that BOTH are under consideration. This is a common ploy for VPS Architecture; alternate bid items. VPS Architecture is commonly known among local contractors as the firm that designs/bids the most alternates and has the biggest addendums. In fact, they’re known locally as the Design-By-Addendum and Change Order firm.
