IS IT TRUE JUNE 19, 2015

IS IT TRUE we are puzzled why Mayoral candidate Gail Riecken hasn’t taken Mayor Winnecke to task about his decision not to explain the details of the newly re-designed Downtown Hotel to City Council?  …this is a great opportunity for Mrs. Riecken to start the debate on open government?

IS IT TRUE  that Mayoral candidate Gail Riecken is in the political battle of her career and must take every opportunity to call out the Mayor on his bad public policy decisions?  …the Mayor not giving City Council and the public an update of the design changes of the downtown Hotel is a prime example of bad public policy?

IS IT TRUE we are also extremely puzzled why the President of City Council Dr. Dan Adams hasn’t demanded that the Mayor make a detailed presentation of the Downtown Hotel? … does he believe that if he forces the Mayor to make this  presentation to City Council in public he would lose the support of the local Unions and the business community?

IS IT TRUE it’s our opinion that Dr. Adams has nothing to lose by demanding Winnecke to make the Hotel redesign plans available to City Council because the Unions aren’t supporting him anyway?

IS IT TRUE that the Redevelopment Commission (ERC) member Stan Wheeler suggested the City Council do away with the Homestead Tax Credit at a recent City Council meeting? …he claims by doing this the City would have more money to spend on much needed projects? …ERC minutes would show that Mr. Wheeler voted yes on nearly every spending project that came before that board? …It’s public knowledge that Mr. Wheeler is considered to be the UNION lobbyist when it comes to jobs that benefit unions?  …Mr. Wheeler was appointed to this position by City Council?

IS IT TRUE if Mr. Wheeler wants to save tax money he would push to make needed cost reductions in the proposed Downtown Hotel by taking out the frills?

IS IT TRUE it’s our opinion if our city officials take away our Homestead Tax Credits it would only give them more money to waste on more pork barrel or rat hole projects?

  1. “IS IT TRUE if Mr. Wheeler wants to save tax money he would push to make needed cost reductions in the proposed Downtown Hotel by taking out the frills?” What “frills” are left?

    • What “frills” are left?—Maybe all the Conventioneers that hate frills in their Hotel/Motel experience in the first place, —could bring their own towels and linens,–it’s a thought. : )

    • @stone: still a lot of frills, like concrete sidewalks when gravel works perfectly well.

  2. If Riecken takes Winnecke to task on open government, then by default she is going to have to offer some specifics on her plan to do differently or risk sounding like a blathering politician. Neither of these candidates have anything substantial to offer.

  3. “IS IT TRUE it’s our opinion if our city officials take away our Homestead Tax Credits it would only give them more money to waste on more pork barrel or rat hole projects?” It is true.

  4. When one politician makes a demand on another politician about info that must be made public at some point anyway, the second politician will not be in a hurry to provide said info as that would appear that he was subservient to the first politician. Dr. Adams needs to be a little more sharp as he could have posed a question, such as, “When will His Highness make the details of the hotel available to the serfs?”, and done greater damage to Mayor Winnecke’s political career.

    • Dr Adams is too smart to listen to that stupid advise you just tried to give to him. He is better than that. If the Mayor does not wish to communicate and keep the City Council President and the rest of the city Council advised as to what’s happening with this revised hotel deal then the Voters should be made aware of what the Mayor is doing. After all he works for the Voters not himself. The votes of Evansville, IN are HIS BOSS and he will soon find this out the hard way if he continues to refuse to tell the voters what’s going on with this stupid over prices and too often delayed motel six. But we will leave the lights on for you anyway.

      • For a supposed Purdue graduate, you really get your panties in a bunch, don’t you? Perhaps there are no political science courses offered at Purdue, which would explain your lack of political smarts, eh?

        • There is NO Supposed. Just because you wear panties doesn’t mean that everyone else does. I hate political Science and refused to take that class. Political Science Majors are NUTS. There are way better classes offered at Purdue that a stupid political science glass. A degree in Political Science and $150 in your pocket will only get you a bad cup of black coffee with no cream an sugar. Political and Smarts are two words that don’t belong in the same sentence. And Politics is far from being a science. It’s not even really and art. Unless you are talking about the art of deception. Political Scientist are what most people would call Oxymoron. But then again you are just a plain simple moron without the oxy. I seriously anyone who thinks that politicians are intelligent is off their rocker. Crooks maybe, but not scientist. And most crooks end up behind bars eventually.
