IS IT TRUE JUNE 17, 2015

IS IT TRUE that nearly all of the many divergent groups of local Democrats have come together and made the determination they need to support Gail Riecken for Mayor?  …there are a few self serving Democrats that may be trying to help themselves to the till, but these efforts  will be in vain?

IS IT TRUE that we simply DO NOT believe the recent News Release from the City Administration and Kunkel that the construction of the McCurdy is imminent?  …we’ll believe it… when we see it?   …we also cannot believe that these renovations will cost less than $25 million.?   …the building it quite literally falling apart and deteriorating by the day?

IS IT TRUE the Winnecke administration is very busy trying to line up groundbreakings in September.?  …the Mayor’s Office also announced the 2nd Annual Groundbreaking Ceremonies for the new Downtown Hotel will be held in late August or early September?   …remember this is the 2nd Groundbreaking on the same darn downsized Hotel (now with window air conditioners)?  … maybe the Mayor will order a banner proclaiming “MISSION COMPLETE”?  … I think I’ve seen that phrase before on another failed ceremony?

IS IT TRUE that the city streets have never been worse.?   …we are in the heart of the paving season and see very little being done to re-pave streets.?  …in every corner of this town, the streets are awful?  … where is the leadership in getting these badly needed repairs and repaving?

IS IT TRUE Dr. Dan /a/k/a/ Dr. Dan Adams, President of the City Council has requested an update from the Mayor about the status of the new Hotel and current funding?   …he has graciously invited the Mayor to update the City Council at an upcoming public meeting?  …update to follow?

IS IT TRUE the CCO held a very successful celebration of leadership banquet at the Tropicana Hotel this week?  …many fine community leaders were recognized and awarded the CCO Community Service Award for 45 and under encouraging and  honoring the future power brokers in our community for their efforts and talents?  …the recipients were Brian Bennett, Nick Hermann, Chase Kelly, Joe Langerak, Stacy McNeil, Amy Rivers-Word, Jacob Pendleton and Stephanie Terry? …congratulations and a sincere thank you for your unselfish contributions in making this community a better place to live and raise a family?

IS IT TRUE we encourage you to take time and vote in our “Readers Poll”?

Have a good day!!

  1. When I read the McCurdy article, I thought the same thing – the groundbreaking is timed for the election. The renovation by The Kunkel Group will never happen. Isn’t it embarrassing to have all of these fake groundbreakings in our city?

      • John Blair has better things to do with his time than to try to stop a NON EVENT like the SECOND FAKE GROUND BREAKING OF THIS STUPID DOWNTOWN MOTEL WITH WINDOW AC UNITS!!! But I’ll tell him you were thinking about him. What he did with those golden shovels at the PCB plant was a work of art. The plant didn’t even last 5 years before it shut down just as John and many other’s predicted. It was not good for the community and it had horrible economics to boot.

  2. Wide Motel Downtown (WMD)–another City administration press release in the Evansville newspaper this morning. Looks like three things will have to happen for that August/September start date:

    1) State approval of design;

    2) Hunt and HCW have to sign up for a $ 60.5 Million not-to-exceed deal; and

    3) Doubletree has to approve the new WMD vs. the 10 story tower.

Seems like a slam dunk to me !

  3. Winnecke has managed to have us recognized as the groundbreaking capital of Southern Indiana. He can hide behind his shovels but soon he’ll have to run on his record and it is a litany of failure and shame.

      • Yeah America the next time you wanna have a beer with somebody…. go have a beer with somebody… besides a president. and don’t vote for somebody that broke everything he touched. Oh and callously executed innocent people for political gain. He got away with in Texas so of course he callously threw away other lives.

  4. The new twist with the MCCurdy is that the CP article left the impression that a partial refurbishment may be in the works. I have to wonder where one may get a loan to do half of a refurbishment on a dilapidated building. If I were to guess, this article and the one on the new hotel were politically motivated just as they have been for the last 7 years. Yes folks, it has been 7 years since the first round of announcements of both of these projects by the last mayor.

    • Your right seven years, and its still the same old failed utility infrastructure at the location of the projects, along with the same old crumby logistical accesses as well. That lack of standing valuation makes the recent news releases seem pretty sketchy at best case. The hotel will never see a profit at the downtown location, even if IU goes through with the short sheeted, and short funded condo style medical school campus. The logistics are stacked against it the overall room availability in the area already will seal its fate as just another downtown Evansville pariah.

When observations are made towards actually fixing the poor outdated downtown infrastructure, and plan developments for real 21st century logistical supply chain accesses are in place we’d then see a trend to believe some of the recent publicity ranting. Only five stories and the boned out construction plans for the little motel on an already failed sewer and water access, wow, why Hilton would want their branding connected with such a location driven pariah “everybody knows”, seems to be a stretch as best count.

    • After 7 years that kind of tells you there is not much demand for either one of those projects. A smart person would lick their wounds and crawl off.

        • The redesign will disclose that the indoor pool will be the outdoor pool . . .never stayed at a convention Hotel with an outdoor pool . . . oh, BTW, remember the 10 story rendition with those mirror like windows . . .no mirror like windows in the revised design only the cheapest windows on the market will be in the new rendition . . .if anyone has stayed at the Sheraton located in Jeffersonville, IN . . .which is not a convention hotel . . . you will see from the outside those same vents that are in the revised rendition beside every window and each room has the HVAC in the corner with the noise that goes with it . . .FACE IT FOLKS, WE WILL HAVE A ROAD SIDE MOTEL . . .the only difference, not roadside.

          • Not to mention Dunn is building a new one in Evansville, out where siting studies, not politics or a perceived need to prop up a dead ‘convention center’, dictates it should be.

The Winnecke administration unfortunately has no ability to feel shame. We will pay the price for shame’s absence as it manifests itself in an unnecessary cheapo motel driven by stubborn hubris.

          • Half ‘a hotel deal, your common council should throw a wrench in that thing right now. New and appropriate per build downgraded and current subsidies are in order for the revenue base there.
“That redesign is half of what the sell was.” Paying for a upscale V8, and getting a white painted base model 4 cylinder roadway slug……….

            “What’s in your proposal? ”

And from afar its seen that’s the core issue at hand for the downtown Evansville redevelopment planning in that combined sewers dirge of a small town. “The cronies bailout.” is the truth of the matter.
The towns common council should knock this no’tell motel project to the ground, like a Bee slough blood sucking disease carrying mosquito, then go all in for a “realistic plan” forward.

    • I also wonder who would want to live in one of those “units” while the other half of the building is still under a renovation that could last who knows how long?

It wont be a year or two before they start seeking rent subsidies.

      • Ha! You’re thinking two or three chess moves ahead. In this town it is better to snatch a couple of poisoned pawns on one side of the board while your king gets checkmated on the other side. However, nobody actually gets punished for losing…. yet.

    • Joe Wallace, right you are that the City has bungled the historic McCurdy Hotel for a long, long time:

“Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel, who announced the McCurdy deal with Kosene officials, said it amounted to “the keystone of our residential efforts in Downtown Evansville.”

It marked the fourth major Downtown residential-commercial redevelopment in two years.

Stephen Scott, Kosene president, said the firm selected Evansville because of strong city leadership and community leaders “who through the Redevelopment Commission have taken some steps already to revitalize the Downtown.”

Asked about possible completion of the project, Scott replied, “People will recognize the McCurdy as a new Downtown destination by the end of’ ’08.”

      • That’s Loarde’s over the commons bullshit as usual, no frigging way that’s sporting any valuation. Junked out politico BS that’s all.

  5. News Flash. . . . Louisville, KY will be constructing a 30 story new hotel . . . City subsidy = $5,000,000 . . .oh we forgot that the Mayor says it cost more to build in Evansville than Louisville!!!

  6. Wouldn’t a private company have already built this hotel if it were needed and had a chance of success?

  8. Well it’s raining, and at a rate that conquers your old centuries combined storm sewers. Enjoy , its not going to let up . Failure after failure, the fail is easy, but your stupid politicos shun it. They don’t own it, that’s why and they never will. So.
