IS IT TRUE? July 20, 2011 Special Evening Edition

IS IT TRUE that today is the inevitable day that the remaining employees of SMG have been dreading?…that SMG was just given 60 days notice by the Evansville Parks Board to vacate Roberts Stadium?… that September 17, 2011 will be the last day that SMG will be maintaining offices in Roberts Stadium?…that the City County Observer wishes every one of the employees that are still working out of Roberts either a seamless transfer to another SMG facility within Evansville or a fast and lucrative search for a new job?…that just as creating jobs is one of the reasons always touted for building something, some jobs are destroyed too?…that we do not expect to see any headlines with smiles and handshakes announcing the jobs that are destroyed and the lives impacted by the collateral damages of the Arena?…that we do have faith in the human spirit and expect that all of the people affected now have an opportunity to better themselves with this unsought change?

IS IT TRUE that we do have some questions about just how today came to be the day that Roberts Stadium was given 60 days notice to vacate?…that we did examine the website of the Evansville Parks Board and were able to find the agenda for today’s meeting?…that there was no line item on today’s agenda regarding SMG or Roberts Stadium?…that the website for the Parks Board only has the agenda for the next meeting and the schedule of the dates of the meetings on it?…that there are absolutely no minutes or agendas of previous meetings posted for public examination?…that we therefore must ask the question “in what public meeting was the 60 day notice to vacate Roberts Stadium discussed and was it ever on a published agenda?…that given the hubbub of today regarding the password requirement being placed on the ERC website, we are curious as to why the Parks Board does not even keep up to date posting as the ERC and the Evansville City Council do?…that maybe we have discovered a public board that is less disciplined and less competent than the ERC?

IS IT TRUE that we are also still bothered about the entire password episode of yesterday involving the ERC website?…that there were many rumors in the Civic Center today that a statement was going to be made blaming a computer glitch for enabling the password restriction?…that this password restriction was enabled on a sub-domain of the main webpage of the City of Evansville?…that the minutes of the City Council were available with no password restriction the entire time?…that the password episode happened on the same day that the hotel proposals were being taken?…that this was done with a series of keystrokes and that somewhere in the backup of the Civic Center computer system there is an archive of the entries made complete with the IP addresses of the computer that the enabling was done from?

IS IT TRUE that for those who would like to blame the enablement of a password restriction on a random computer glitch, we say PROVE IT?…that the City of Evansville did the right thing this morning by eliminating the password restriction?…that the wrong thing happened yesterday that made doing the right thing today necessary?…that technical probability that the password restriction was caused by a random glitch is about as high as the probability that Mole #3 will be taking Peyton Manning’s job as the quarterback of the Colts?

  1. Are Rick Davis and Lloyd Winnecke aware of these developments? Hello. I may vote for the first to respond with disagreement to the City password censorship of ERC public records.

    • Joe that’s a no brainer, they are both against password protecting city internet records, as is every politician currently running for office, no matter what their stance has been for the past four years.

  2. FYI – The park board meeting minutes are edited before they are filed in final form. I went back several months to research what was specifically said at a particular meeting and
searched 5 meetings either side of it in case I had the wrong date. Nothing! The whole question I asked and the answer I was given was nowhere to be found.

Please watch the park board. Too many old dogs still hanging on with interest only in money rather than public parks. Yes things are more expensive now than in 1980. And yes declining property values make for less money to spend. (We got ourselves into a mess with that const. amendment.) But the park board seems to think that the more park land they can give away the less they have to mow, period. To heck with the public.

    • Doesn’t PBS WNIN record these meetings? Couldn’t an investigative person check these digital video recordings for the word for word information the public would like to know? I know the audio is poor sometimes when shown on PBS, but with the proper equipment the last few years should be accessible through this public outlet? I would hope the C&P, WFIE, WEHT, and Local 7 would have some reporter who wants to make a mark in their career?? Where is Stephanie Silva? She wouldn’t back down! Maybe that is why she is not in the Eville market anymore? The TRUTH is all we want, Truth has no agenda! Step up someone, step up!
