IS IT TRUE July 12, 2012
IS IT TRUE there is finally a situation where President Barack Obama kept his word exactly as he said he would and that the Tri-State will suffer the loss of wealth and jobs for his honesty?…that during the campaign in 2008 then candidate Obama uttered the following phrase?
“So if someone wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.â€
IS IT TRUE on Monday the Patriot Coal Corporation that has operated coal mines in Western Kentucky for a long time filed for bankruptcy?…that President Barack Obama kept this promise?…this promise has much to do with why President Obama is trailing by so much in Kentucky and West Virginia that he would really be wasting his time to even go into those states?…that it will be interesting to see what happens to the President’s support in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania all of which have extensive mining industries?…it will be even more interesting to see his level of support in his home state of Illinois once you get south of Chicagoland?
IS IT TRUE that every item that will be worn by the US Olympic team in the upcoming London Olympic Games is made in China?…this is a personal insult to every American manufacturer, taxpayers and the over 20 Million unemployed and underemployed members of the American workforce?
IS IT TRUE that the Par 3 Golf course located at Wesselman Park has lights so patrons can play golf in the evening?…taxpayers couldn’t play golf at Wesselman Park because the past Mayor has made sure his workers kept the lights off for the last 6 years?…it looks like the new Mayor is presented with yet another negative surprise left to him by the last Mayor?…we expect the new Mayor and his Parks Director to address this issue in a timely manner and make the needed adjustment to allow evening golf to be played at the Wesselman Park Par 3 golf course?
IS IT TRUE that 5th Ward City Councilman and Budget Chairman John Friend, CPA just requested that the State Board of Accounts conduct an official audit concerning the total costs incurred in building the downtown Ford Center?…we can’t wait to review the audit findings as presented to the new Mayor, Councilman Friend, and his fellow council members?
IS IT TRUE we find it interesting that SMG doesn’t have a Consultant of Diversity in their employment but VenuWorks does? …that SMG has produced an impressive menu of diverse shows at the properties they are in charge of?…if City Council President Connie Robinson is intent on seeing shows that she approves of brought to the Ford Center that she should take this issue up with Mr. Tallmadge Vick and not the Evansville mainstream media outlets?
I have been patiently waiting for someone to call for an audit on the construction of the Ford Center, given the moral torpitude of our former mayor, Wienie-Zapple.
DJ:
Are you saying our former mayor has been suffering a period of moral torpidity?

What do you care? You live way out in the county. What does this have to do with you?
Your ignorance is showing again. Educate yourself on the sources of revenue identified for meeting the debt service on the arena bonds. Then you can come back and apologize, or not.
BTW, even the existing sources are not cast in stone. Should they fail to meet the needs for servicing the arena debt they will just go before the city council and get approval for to add the debt service to the property tax rates or to the COIT.

This is completely off subject, but since you mentioned “South of Chicagoland” I need to purge this…
Illinois is a fabulous example of the tyranny of the majority. Chicago couldn’t be any more different demographically than everywhere else in the State, yet Chicago sets ALL policies for the entire State.
Illinois residents not living in Chicago would do well to either break off and become their own State or just sell their homes and leave.
Imagine a place where the vast majority of your land area was populated by decent, hard working people just trying to make an honest living, yet the vast majority of your State politicians are of the Barack Obama mindset… You’ve just imagined Illinois. What a shithole.
All the more reason to stop the reorganization of the two governments. Vote for consolidation, and you are voting to become a “little chicago”, with the Mayor as King, and all the little squires lining up behind him. Wake up people, vote YES for consolidation, and you will regret it forever.
Chicago is one of the most hardest working ultracompetive places on the planet. Have you ever been outside of this godforsaken place? (SW Indiana)for more than a week? You know the land of the RTL control freaks and the home of the homophobes!? You would be chewed up and spit out in no time.
If the 20 murders last weekend are any indication of Chicago’s competitiveness then they are working overtime at killing each other.
Have you been to the parts of Illinois that aren’t around Chicago? Southern Illinois without Chicago would be worse off than West Virginia. Without the tax revenue generated by Cook County and it’s suburbs, the rest of Illinois would be a wasteland.
Your last paragraph is some of the most ignorant, FOX News fed conservative nonsense ever put in writing. You know what? I would bet money you’ve never even been to Chicago. If you had, you would know it’s one of the most beautiful, vibrant cities in the world, with world class tourist attractions, museums, cultural centers and a rich architectural history you won’t find anywhere else. Turn off the AM radio and travel more than 20 miles outside of your house for the first time in your life and you may learn something.
Been there many times. Got family there. Don’t even watch Fox News.
The point is, the rest of Illinois props up Chicago at is own expense. That’s where all the policies are tailored to, that’s where the spending goes. There is a reason the rest of Illinois is like it is.
Chicago is a vibrant city built as much on organized crime and political gamesmanship as hard work.
You couldn’t have it more backwards. Chicago props up the rest of Illinois. Policies are tailored to Chicago because that’s where the money and the people are.
I’d like to see a calculation on how much it costs to run the lights at that Par 3 at Wesselmans’ for one hour. How about installing a coin operated timer on the light system? As someone who does not play golf or even live in that vicinity, I’d prefer not to help pay for the lights being on.
This is a prime example why municipalities shouldn’t be in the business of building a golf course in the first place. Everyone should PAY TO PLAY. That way, those of us who couldn’t care less to play don’t have to pay.
The whole debate over the diversity of acts brought to the Ford Center should teach everyone a valuable lesson in exactly why you don’t want government running ANYTHING, if you can keep from it.
The quickest way to non-profitability and failure is to let bureaucrats like Connie Robinson and some diversity consultant decide what is best for the people, rather than letting the people, through the vote of their free market spending habits, decide what they want. But of course, arrogant, self-important bureaucrats have nothing better to do with their lives outside getting their pets pedicures than telling other people what’s best for them.
Let me get this straight…we find money to build a new downtown stadium, that as far as I can tell, has resulted in two new bars, more debt soon to come for a hotel with less ammenities than the one torn down, and the mayor moving on Main St., but no money for six years to pay for lights at a Par 3 golf course…penny wise pound foolish..
