IS IT TRUE? August 4, 2011

IS IT TRUE that John Kish, the project manager for the construction of the new Evansville Arena has now resorted to complete ignorance of the operating expenses involved in fielding a hockey team to explain his incoherent position with respect to the Evansville IceMen?…that the latest quote as given to Local 7 is “It is an expensive sport to present,” and “We promised to run this building so that it doesn’t lose money, and right now the negotiations are not a point where I can recommend a deal that won’t lose money.” ?…that if hockey was so expensive and there were so many unknowns associated with this sport, shouldn’t the people of Evansville been warned of this ignorance and excessive risk before Mayor Weinzapfel rammed this Arena through without a referendum?

IS IT TRUE that it seems as though the project manager, the Mayor, and the surrogates in waiting are now reading the first chapter of “Hockey for Dummies” and that the light bulbs are finally coming on?…that they should have read this before committing to build what is truly a hockey arena in the center of a basketball town?…that playing dumb and feigning ignorance will never make up for that lethal mix if arrogance and ignorance that this team of elected and appointed officials exhibited 3 years ago when a hotel was in the bag for no public money, the McCurdy was a slam dunk, and hockey was the wave of the future?…that there will not be much sympathy among the taxpayers of Evansville for this Three Stooges routine?…that we expect this job to be done and we expect it to be done right?…that none of the people of Evansville are in the mood for lame excuses?

IS T TRUE that the real reason behind yet another debacle is that the management of the Arena has not yet mastered the art of playing hockey and basketball in the same 24 hour period?…that these lessons should have been learned from other places that have already figured this out?…that once again we are faced with challenges in the MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO department?…that to be successful with copycat policies one must first actually turn off the arrogance to the point of watching and listening to what a success elsewhere may look like?…that mastering the art of having hockey and basketball on the same day should have been rehearsed 2 years ago?…that this is just par for the putt putt course called the City of Evansville?

IS IT TRUE that fans of the Evansville IceMen have organized a rally on August 18th at the St. Boniface Church to show support for the team?…that if the team is not in Evansville due to the ineptness of the Arena management team that these people need to find something else to watch?…that people all over town are puzzled at the failure to reach a deal that will allow the IceMen to play in the custom hockey stadium that we are all calling the Arena?

IS IT TRUE that the words are slinging over the dismissal of three employees of the Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana?…that some of these words are not very flattering at all on the Chamber?…that some former Chamber members have contacted the City County Observer regarding what value that they never have received from their memberships?…that one reader even complained that after 12 months of attending mixers etc. that he got nothing of value but did get notices every two weeks that his dues for the second year were overdue?…that if this is the way members have been treated and provided value then we are very curious about the real story around the firing of 3 long term employees?

IS IT TRUE that every dog has his day and that these three people shall have theirs if there is one to be had?…that if something wrong was really happening then these people need to expose it or shut up?…that evil flourishes when good people remain silent?…that we do not see any evidence of evil on either side as yet?…that if wrong was done that it needs to be exposed but if it was not then this needs to be silenced very quickly?…that it is time for both sides to put up or shut up?

  1. Whoever is complaining about being harassed by the Chamber of Commerce needs to pay their $150 every quarter. However did you know, that when a business in Evansville needs the Chamber’s member list, it costs them additional $500 or more? That’s the price of being a member.

Better off buying a list of businesses from InfoUSA, than pay our CoC.

    • Dues are charged on an annual basis in the amount of $430. There is no obligation to maintain membership after the first year. I elected not to renew my membership. Yet, I received what amounted to collection letters with a red “PAST DUE” stamped on it. Why should I pay up? Would you?
The list in question was on CD-Rom and was included as a perk for joining.
Yes, and I now know there are many ways to develop new leads an contacts for my business other than kissing up to CCSWIN.

  2. if we can’t have hockkey maybe they can get Roller Derby and Professional Wrestling

    • actually the Roller Derby would probably outdraw the ice hockey, those lladies put on a pretty good show

  3. Never has Evansville suffered from a combination of arrogance and sustained gross incompetence as demonstrated by the City, the ERC and Mr. Kish. Combined they could not operate a lemonade stand in a heatwave. The City taxpayers will be assuming the position for many, many years to come for their bungling of the McCurdy (remember the $600,000 parking lot the City bought for the vacant and decaying historic building), the Executive Inn and the Hockey Arena fiascos. I wish Mr, Davis and Mr. Winnecke would speak out on these major pressing issues, instead of releasing statements that they are for cleaner City parks.

    • I agree. With both Winneke and Davis sitting by and saying nothing, it sends a message that they are happy with the status quo whether they actually are or not. I would think that the 1st candidate that sets up a podium in front of the Arena, the Executive rubble pile, or the McCurdy with their team of supporting candidates and speaks out about the corrupt, negligent, snegal, rubber stamped, old boy network and pledge to change things will surely have a big advantage in the election.

      • Amen. Maybe someone could print out and mail these CCO articles to both Mr. Davis and Mr. Winnecke as it appears neither of them have internet access to read the CCO online articles about these huge tax wasting fiascos that one of them will inherit.

      • Maybe…..timing is everything and I would suspect that by the end of the month thing will heat up substantially, while position papers are fine to lay a foundation on face time with the public is what will sway voters. By the end of September we will probably be saying we wished they would shut up, both candidates are gathering their forces, reviewing their financing, preparing their attacks, picking the battles…waiting to comment just gives the current administration more time to act like the fools they are which is more ammunition, talking points, and position papers for the candidates to consider.

My dad had a saying about giving them enough rope to hang themselves…I believe that is what is going on right now. Both candidates have seen the Ready Fire Aim approach that the current administration is famous for and neither wants to be associated with that type of mentality in their campaign, soon enough they will both be flapping their gums telling us what we want to hear…there is ample time left for Mr Winneke and Mr Davis to just sit back and watch the show, develop a plan of attack, and pick their battles, it’s how wars are won and this my friend is going to be a real barn burner come this fall.

        • I wouldn’t be surprised that they have position papers in the works on these topics, but it seems like every day that there is a new revelation that takes the idiocy to a new level, requiring a new position paper!

They paper writers probably can’t keep up with the issues!

          • Mr. Davis and Mr. Winnecke shouldn’t need a position paper or teleprompter to hold a press conference to comment in the continuing inept and wasteful decisions being made the City, ERC and Mr. Kish and to explain how they will try to fix all of these debacles if elected. In fact, the CCO could offer to moderate 2 televised debates, held first by the hockey arena rubble pile and later in the $600,000 McCurdy parking lot.

        • Agreed, It’s all talk til someone is elected, and it will get old soon enough.
I prefer to look at a Candidates Record for clues about what I might be voting for. Talk is Cheap, and I guess you could call this observation, my $0.02 worth.

        • Yes, timing is everything. I wouldn’t want my opponent to beat me to the punch of calling this mess a mess (understatement). Whoever is 2nd will seem like a copy-cat.

  4. Hockey. Indiana. Enough said. It is a nice concept but hockey is never going anywhere here.

    • Does Indianapolis have a Ice hockey Team? Answer is yes,a minor league team, but if you had to look it up that should tell you something. Nothing like spending who knows how many millions for a home for the Icemen or might as well be the Otters. This town fired a Mayor wanting to upgrade to at least a minor league Baseball team and park. That you could walk to and not freeze. I research buying a car more than this mayor and his followers did on this arena. Maybe the Icemen or who ever now can get a game with an NHL team. That is the only way there will ever be a sell out or over 5,000 in this arena for Hockey. What a joke.

  5. Pappa
Not only are you correct, but, no-one could have said it better!
This town and its’ people a SO READY to clean out the good ole boy network.
There is only one man poised to get the job done. …
    Rick Davis

  6. I propose the City of Evansville, i.e., Bob Goldman and the Bobette’s contract with either Prime Lodging or the Kunkel Group; tear down the old McCurdy Hotel (sorry pigeons), and build a new Hockey Arena. There should be plenty of parking on the Dunn Lot.
