IS IT TRUE we can’t wait for the City of Evansville Council members start giving their doom and gloom reasons why they should pass Dan McGinn’s resolution to reduce the percentage of the HOMESTEAD TAX CREDIT for the 2017 budget year?

IS IT TRUE that City Controller Russ Lloyd Jr reported that the General Fund had $3.9 million as of June 30, 2016?   …if he would had properly paid back the unauthorized disbursement from the Riverboat Fund in the amount of $12.5 million the General Fund would be negative by $8.4 million?

IS IT TRUE its alleged in 2016 that City Controller Russ Lloyd Jr failed to transfer $7.5 million from the General Fund into the Employee Hospitalization Fund which caused that fund to be negative by $7.5 million as of June 30, 2016?  …if this allegation is correct we wonder what the balance of this account was at the end  of 2016?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why members of City Council aren’t talking about making some serious budget cuts in order to help balance the proposed 2017 budget?

IS IT TRUE one thing that City Council members don’t want the public to know is that the City of Evansville received around $2 million dollars from the State because of an increase in the LOCAL OPTION INCOME TAX for 2016?  …we hope the City put this financial windfall from the State into the “Rainey Day Fund”?

IS IT TRUE we left the current ‘READERS POLLL” question up for a couple extra days in order to make a point?  …we hope City Council members will finally get the message that the homeowners of this community are strongly opposed to the resolution that reduces the HOMESTEAD TAX CREDIT percentage to help pay for Council bad spending habits during 2016?

IS IT TRUE it looks like the election promise made by candidates for City Council that they are going to be a fiscal watchdog is down the tube?  …don’t you just like it when political types run for re-election as a right wing fiscal conservative and turn out to be a left wing tax and spend liberal?

IS IT TRUE its obvious during the 2016 budget year that Mayor Winnecke got everything he wanted from council ?  …it looks like our current City Council will continue to give Mayor Winnecke everything he wants in the proposed 2017 budget?

IS IT TRUE we predict that City Council will give approvals for some expenses capital projects for 2017?  …don’t be surprised that additional funds will given to phase in SpotShooter, Roberts Park, a South American Penguin exhibit at Mesker Park Zoo, a new Aquatic Center located on the North end of town?  …we hope when Council give permission to fund these projects they will also put money in the budget for upkeep of these new endeavors?

IS IT TRUE one would expect after last year city election we would have at least one strong independent thinking and fiscally conservative person on council? …these are the kind of results you get when only 7 percent of people turnout to vote?

    should we not pay back the Employee Hospitalization Fund first. As long as you have debts you do not have extra money.

    • By all accounts, the General Fund was overspent by $1.1 million per month during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. With $500,000 added revenue in the reduction of the Homestead Credit and even an increase in the Option Income Tax by 25% increasing the LIT revenue by $4 mil plus the extra $2 mil from the State the added revenue would only get em half way home ($13 mil in deficits minus the added revenue of $6.5 mil)

    NO, it isn’t true. We still have Connie Robinson. Elpers and Brinkmeyer have some potential to grow backbones, but we all know the story with Mosby and Weaver. It appears that Hargis and Mercer didn’t realize that the office they hold has some responsibility attached. They apparently thought they were running for homecoming court, something they weren’t chosen for in high school. Doc Adams wants to make life easy for his son on EPD and Butterfly needed to cling to his health insurance after he botched things so badly at Mesker Zoo with his over-budget fancy flower bed, Amazonia. They aren’t going to make waves.
    It’s up to us to hold their feet to the fire, Councilwoman Robinson can’t do it by herself.

    • Councilwoman Robinson may have some concerns as well. Doesn’t her husband work in METS? And doesn’t she have business with Tropicanna? And doesn’t she have business with VenueWorks (Ford Center)?

      • I can assure you that Connie and her husband are not dependent on the City for their primary source of income, in the way that Doc Adams’ son is.

        • That’s kind of a nasty way of putting it, LKB. Doc Adams son is a patrol officer, just a regular beat cop. His primary employer is the City of Evansville. He is ‘dependent’ on the city for his income only in the same way that a nurse who works full time at St. Mary’s is ‘dependent’ on St. Mary’s, or a the CEO of Berry Plastics is ‘dependent’ on Berry Plastics. Your implication seems to be that he is in some type of crony position, which is flat out not true. I helped teach one of his police academy classes, and trust me, he wasn’t getting any preferential treatment just because his pop is on the city council.

          • You misinterpreted what I was saying. Most people depend on their earnings from their job, My point is that Connie and her husband have a much broader source of income than just those named by Grateful Dead. There was NO implication that Doc’s son is in a “crony” position or that he gets preferential treatment. In fact, I see it more of a “hostage” situation that a crony deal. The nastiness was in the eye of the reader.

  9. My personal bias is that I don’t think any 70ish-year old person (Clinton or Trump) should be president. You wouldn’t hire a 70-year old into any other type of job that requires high energy, mental flexibility, and a possible eight-years of service. Why would we do it for the most important job in the land? And keep in mind that we haven’t seen detailed medical records from either oldster. Scott Adams

    • Not all that long ago, airline pilots were required to retire at 60. It is now 65.

      And they are only responsible for hauling around a can full of humans, much less the responsibility of making a decision that could actually cause harm to the entire world.

      • There is something to be said for the idea. Look at how eight years as POTUS have aged our relatively young and healthy president.

        I think Congress should at least enact a law that requires the candidates in primaries to undergo a rigorous physical and psychological exam from three different unbiased and highly respected doctors and the results should be published for the voters, along with the last ten years of each candidate’s tax returns. That ought to filter out some of the publicity-seekers.

    • I think you would be a fool to overlook a person for a job requiring high energy and mental flexibility simply because they are older. There are LOTS of 70+ people who are active in jobs that require not only high mental functioning and high energy, but also require the soberness and judgement that can only come from a long life and numerous life experiences.

    Yes….and this problem…that there are no distinguishable governing characteristics between City Republicans in office, and City Democrats in office….is the bane of existence in Evansville politics. It sucks the oil out of the administrative functions of governing the City…and creates a culture of Council crisis management instead of Council leadership.

    (BTW…it’s not a liberal issue. And it’s not a conservative issue. Fiscal irresponsibility is “bad management and leadership skills”…not a liberal or conservative issue. Conservatives run up budget deficits just as easily as anyone….and they are not “liberal.” They’re horrible fiscal leaders.)

    But applying DEM or GOP labels doesn’t apply because Evansville government is essentially an administrative function – focused on the budget. “Who gets to pull the purse strings.” — all E’vlle elections are about that. A scramble focused on who controls the budget.

    Personal and civil rights issues are decided at the Federal level…so voting expecting your LOCAL Democrat or Republican to heed to those norms? They don’t apply. They are not under their jurisdiction. Repeat: They DON’T apply. Local government elections are about fiscal management.

    So….you have to choose where to cast your vote…..(unless you are voting strictly for access to purse strings) based on the FISCAL efficiency of the candidate – not whether the person is a DEM or GOP in Evansville. The two local parties are little other than “people fighting each other on who gets to control the purse strings.” No other difference.

    But the CCO is right to pound this issue. Holding Council and Administration accountable for good fiscal management is key. Perhaps demanding oversight from the State is the best strategy, cause there appears to be no local political will to get it done in the local electoral process.

      • In men, there is a thing that at various stages of life for them that they either think
        with that thing above their shoulders, or that thing below their belt does their thinking
        for them. It is apparent that the “above the neck” is not hitting on all cylinders! I won’t
        venture in the lower section, you draw your own conclusion on that one!

        • Men usually use the smaller of their two heads to guide their behavior when they are young and the larger one as they age. Unfortunately, Viagra and the other ED meds have made using the larger head less common. Viagra is a crime against nature.

      • James Carville is amazing. He has to have a good insight into the workings of other peoples’ minds to be the great political strategist he is. I think he nailed Trump.

      It’s because Obama’s an African American. This whole Trump thing started coalescing voters around the claim Obama was born in Kenya – which for people like Press means a black man, not a white man. It is NO coincidence Trump is the original birther. This whole thing – is based on that original claim.

      It infuriates Press that a black man is President – and Trump feeds that bigotry at all of his rallies with “he founded ISIS comments,” repeating Obama’s middle name as often as possible, etc…..cause it triggers the bigoted resentment in people like Pressanykey.

      So….don’t feel so bad that Trump followers don’t care about policy of “deficit reduction statistics.” They don’t care. It’s about resentment over the Obama coalition including non-white people.)

  17. Have been watching a little bit of news from all the networks on my Dish network these
    past couple months and have came to a conclusion. There is likely 20-25% of people
    who are paid to promote Trump in front of a news camera that seems to have a working brain?
    What brought me over that edge was when Arkansas attorney general was asked on CNN just a
    few minutes ago on some of Trumps statements. With a cheesy smile flashing on and off like a
    flashing light, could not answer any question but babbled on about the same half dozen talking
    points in which mostly all the paid Trump people in front of the camera are focusing on for this day.
    Last night, ex NYC mayor who is promoting Trump was a exception. You knew what he was going to
    say, but he was thinking, not robotic speaking!

    I had been thinking that upwards of 90% of these paid Trump people were on some kind of
    dope! This was because of watching these fake cheesy smile, the speed of there speaking,
    their body languish, lack of ability to answer the questions asked without diversion back to
    the same half dozen talking points that was scripted for the day. But I may be wrong!

    It appears to me now that it could be something else. Looking back these 40+ years
    where we have seen several religious occults exposed. These 75-80% paid Trump people
    appear to be in a Trump occult like trance! They appear to have been brain washed , and with
    no thought of their own! I believe if Trump would tell them to board a space ship so they
    can fly to Halley’s Comet (1996) for eternal piece, they would not question it! Couple of
    posters on this site would likely join them!

The bloom is off the rose….every day, he wakes up trying to continue to earn Pressanykey and Indiana Enoch’s votes….over and over and over – always the same things. But he’s not trying to win any NEW voters….votes he desperately needs in order to win.

    But the other voters – have had enough of the schtick:
