We hope that today’s “IS IT TRUEâ€Â will provoke honest and open dialogue concerning issues that we, as responsible citizens of this community, need to address in a rational and responsible way?
IS IT TRUE one of the major reasons why small home owned and homegrown Ma and Pa businesses weren’t able to take advantage of the billions of dollars from the business bailout programs was because the Washington D. C. fat cats have seemly taken care of their political buddies first?
IS IT TRUE we find it interesting that Ruth Chris a renowned Steak House that made a $42 million dollar profit last year was able to acquire a $20 million stimulus package grant/loan from the government while many thousands of homegrown businesses stimulus package requests were rejected?
IS IT TRUEÂ much of the $350 billion in the Small Business Administration’s emergency coronavirus relief fund was effectively spoken for within the first five (5) minutes of launch?
IS IT TRUE that the Paycheck Protection Program funds ran dry after less than two weeks, only 27,000 loans had ultimately been approved?
IS IT TRUEÂ it’s now projected that the Coronovirus will hit its peak in Indiana between the last week of April or during the first couple of weeks of May 2020?
IS IT TRUE that we need to TEST and TRACE and TREAT in order to defeat the COVID -19 virus?
IS IT TRUE that 328 million people are living in America? Â …approximately 1 1/2 percent of Americans have been tested for the COVIS-19 virus so far? Â …that 746,379 Americans have tested positive with the COVID -19 virus? Â …that 41,379 Americans have died from the COVID-19 virus?
IS IT TRUE that Vanderburgh County has 85 confirmed cases of the COVID -19 virus and Warrick County has 58 cases? Â …that statewide there are 11,210 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus? Â …as of yesterday, Indiana has conducted a disappointing 61,142 COVID-19 virus tests so far? Â …the population of Indiana is around 6.8 million people? …that 562 Hoosiers have died with the COVID -19 virus?
IS IT TRUE we urge you to ask our elected official in Vanderburgh County what percentage of our residents have been tested for the COVID-19 virus?  …we predict all you will hear from the majority of them is the sound of crickets?  …we predict that the only elected officials in our county that can give you the answer are Mayor Winnecke and County Commissioners Musgrave, Shoulders and Hatfield?  …this the reason why we keep urging our state and local Health Department officials to continue to TEST and TRACE and TREAT?
IS IT TRUEÂ we are told that elected officials are now spinning the story that the City of Evansville has lost $2.8 million dollars since the COVID-19 virus hit? Â …we have a gut feeling that some of the city budgets were already overspent long before the virus hit Evansville because of elected officials deficit spending habits?
IS IT TRUEÂ during the 2020 budget hearing the Mayor upset a couple of City Council members when he left his funding requests for the Penguin Zoo exhibit intact?
IS IT TRUE we remember when former City Councilman and Finance Chairmen John Friend, CPA urged Mayor Winnecke to set aside around $3 million dollars in a “Rainy Day Fund”? …we are sorry to report that Mayor Winnecke didn’t heed Mr. Friend sound financial advice?
IS IT TRUE our medical heroes stay at work to help us? Â …please stay home to help them?
IS IT TRUE that having a good tomorrow is for the people who prepare for it today?
IS IT TRUE we would like to give five (5) cheers to Amy and Jim Beck and Belcher Flooring for providing lunch to the Cath Lab employees that work at a local hospital? Â …thanks also are given to Amanda Goldsberry Giles and Amy Word-Smith owner of Lamasco Bar and Grill for delivering and preparing the lunches for our medical heroes?

IS IT TRUE if you or your friends would like for Lamasco Bar and Grill to organize breakfast, lunch or dinner for our essential front line medical heroes at an affordable price please contact Amy Word-Smith by calling her 812-480-0323?
IS IT TRUE thank Steve Hammer, Doros Hadjisavva, Alexander Burrton and the Junior League for delivering hundreds of foods to people living in low-income areas multiple times a week?
IS IT TRUE when the people fear the Government we have Tyranny! Â When the government fears the people we have Liberty?
The anti-COVID precautions protests will likely spread to Vanderburgh County too. The President is actually encouraging these people to go out and congregate. He is restricting COVID testing materials, and why would he do that? Because he knows the testing results will show more infections, and expose Trump’s dereliction of duty.
EMS, Firefighter and Health care workers are dying because they are forced to care for people who won’t take precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The people who are protesting the COVID-19 precautions?
They are spreading COVID-19!
And more of our front-line health care workers are dying because of these worthless miscreants. And tragically, President Trump is encouraging more death for our EMS, Firefighter and Hospital clinical healthcare personnel.
THANK YOU for putting into words exactly what many of us are – and all should be – thinking!
There’s nothing going on in Vanderburgh county even remotely as draconian as what is going on in Michigan, NY or NJ. Are you supporting communism? I can go into Cosco’s and buy anything I want, not so in Michigan. You are undoubtedly an extreme left wing liberal. Trump is encouraging freedom. Concerned and plain talk actually make me fear for the future of the constitution and America.
Speaking of spreading the virus, who is spreading to all those vulnerable folks in those nursing homes? Can you imagine what things would look like if Biden or Hilliary was president. I’m hoping that Americans take a good like at what communist= democrats are doing to this country and vote for Trump and conservatives. If Trump is not re elected this country will definitely go into a depression, we will have open borders, lose freedom of speech and our second amendment rights. What kind of communist government arrests a man for playing catch in an empty field with his daughter? Can’t go fishing or boating, beware of democrats even the local ones, take a long hard look at our local democrats because we are about to experience the effects of 20 years of financial mismanagement.
Talking of loans to businesses that really don’t deserve it, I have heard that many newspapers have received Government stimulus loans. THEY DON’T DESERVE IT!! Did the CCO get part of this?
Another Voice
The City-County Observer is in excellent financial shape. No, the CCO hasn’t and will not apply for a Government stimulus loan. We want this money to be allocated to our deserving home owned and homegrown small businesses.
We are extremely puzzled why a multi-million dollar publishing conglomerate needs to receive a government bailout.
Sincerely,
CCO PUBLISHER
WOW I appreciate your support for the local community it truly continues to prove my support for the CCO. I really hope that the local small business are helped like you suggest!
I am concerned that our Mayor isn’t listening to the Medical Experts in our community but instead he has appointed people to the “OPEN BACK EVANSVILLE” committee who have agendas to benefit themselves.
I am afraid this committee will decide to open businesses too soon which will result in a flair-up of even more COVID_19 virus numbers which will cause additional deaths in our community.
You can use your own common sense. Just because a business is open doesn’t mean you have to go there. It’s your choice.
I’m sure you will be the first to complain when our taxes are increased
Dear Admin:
Reading your question above: “What percentage of the population of Vanderburgh County have been tested for COVID-19?” A quick estimate shows we have tested roughly 2.5% of our local population. When reading today’s statistics online from the Indiana Department of Health (Statewide Dashboard) and the data from our local Vanderburgh County Health Department (Dashboard), we can see that approximately 4,500 people have been tested out of a total population of 180,700. This is not exact, and the numbers change daily, but this is a quick attempt to answer the question. I do want to reassure our residents here in Vanderburgh County that I am listening to our local Health Department and our area doctors in any decisions I have made or will make regarding this crisis. I take the public’s health very serious and I want to encourage everyone to follow the guidelines that have been established by the federal, state and local governments.
