IS IT TRUE April 16, 2012

IS IT TRUE that the State of California in an attempt to collect some taxes that are overdue has released a list known as the 500 biggest tax cheats?…that in reality it not necessarily a list of cheaters but is a list of the 500 people or businesses that have the highest unpaid and delinquent tax bills?…that tax delinquencies are public documents and should anyone anywhere find out such information it is within their rights to publish such information?…that if you doubt this just wait to see if Pamela Anderson and Lionel Richie file any charges over having their tax delinquencies plastered on a bunch of front pages yesterday?

IS IT TRUE that the first week of the presidential campaign since it is now unofficially a two man race have really brought out the nastiness from political operatives and paid commentators?…that it was routine last week across the country to see President Obama and Governor Romney getting called idiots by people who could not hold a candle to either of these men in a cognitive thinking contest?…that President Obama and Governor Romney have both been estimated to have an IQ of between 130 and 150 with President Obama having scored 141 on an IQ test taken as a child?…that a score of 145 or three standard deviations from the mean of 100 makes both of these candidates for President of the United States 1 %ers or having a higher IQ than 99% of the population?…that they both earn more money than 99% of the general population too?…that you can disagree with either candidate, you can question the motives, the character, the honesty, or even the applicable training of either candidate?…that you can call them any name you like buy do not call then dumb, idiots, or fools because of all things they may be dumb is not one of those things?..that you should not call them poor either because they clearly are not?

IS IT TRUE that the average billing rate for a partner in a law firm has now topped $500 per hour for the first time?…that if a partner’s rates are at the top 25% point that the rate is now at $873 per hour?…that the poor underachieving partners at the bottom 25% of the billing rate curve are only knocking down a rate of $204 per hour?…that we hope these guys can find a way to survive on such rates?

IS IT TRUE that it has now been roughly 4 months since former Mayor Weinzapfel signed an agreement with Johnson Controls to make the billing for water easier and more accurate in the City of Evansville?…that this is asserted to be one of those contracts that pays for itself in savings so the normal bidding channels were not necessary to sign onto a $51 Million deal?…that private VETTING which seems to be the only kind of VETTING that ever turns up any real information in Evansville has found some unanswered questions in the Johnson Controls deal?…that some of the private VETTING has been made available to the CCO and more is on the way?…that the most glaring of the questionable claims is that over 40% of the asserted savings are “un-measurable” savings?…that it is hard to get a grip on what an un-measurable or an intangible of over $20 Million might be?…that if one commits to the numbers that one must be held accountable to the numbers and that it seems as though the Johnson Controls deal has the aura of “heads we win, tails you lose” insofar as the people of Evansville’s money is concerned?…that in a city that has rushed into deals for the McCurdy, the downtown Convention Hotel, the Earthcare Energy non-vetted loan approval, and now the un-measurable savings in the Johnson Controls deal there really needs to be a time out and reality check put into place before writing even one check for any of these projects?…that the Apple Computer Company has a slogan and it is “Think Different”?…that the City of Evansville needs to adopt a shorter slogan by one word?…that the City of Evansville’s slogan should simply be “THINK”?

  1. CCO Readers:

This Johnson Controls water meter project is a failure in governance. Go out to the IURC website, and pull up Cause # 44123. Take a look at the testimony of OUCC Analyst, Edward Kaufman, who reported as follows:

    1) The cumulative savings to the Water Dept. for this project, over 20 years, is $ 67,000 (this is NOT the annual savings, this is the savings for the entire 20 year period, to which Johnson Controls/EWS expert witness testifed ); and

    2) There are around 59,000 meters of a size .625 (household size) which will be changed out if this project goes forward. There was a sample take of sixty-seven meters currently in operation which were tested to measure the accuracy of the readings so that it could be compared to the estimated accuracy of the new meters. One of the 67 meters and was providing non-standard readings. Mr. Kaufman calculated that if just that one (1) meter out of the 67 were tossed out of the sample, the effect on the overall project would be:

    a) The savings over 20 years would be REDUCED by $ 500,000 (and recall that the expert witness said the 20 years savings were only $ 67,000 in the first place); and

    b) If just that one (1) meter out of sixty-seven (67) was thrown out of the sample, the accuracy of the meters ALREADY installed in our homes approximaes the accuracy of those new meters which this project will put in place ! In other words, the entire premise of this project (” more accurate meter readings”) is turned on its proverbial head !

CCO technical geek: please link to the IURC website so readers can see for themselves what OUCC analyst Kaufman had to say about this deal.

  2. “that President Obama and Governor Romney have both been estimated to have an IQ of between 130 and 150 with President Obama having scored 141 on an IQ test taken as a child?…that a score of 145 or three standard deviations from the mean of 100 makes both of these candidates for President of the United States 1 %ers or having a higher IQ than 99% of the population?”

Really? I’m sure somewhere there is a deduction on mental power or capacity playing a important influence on both of these fine men, neither act or have proven to have the IQ much above the other 99% of the population…..but then again a high IQ doesn’t equate to being smarter it just says the potential is there. In the case of our current president a IQ score of 141 puts him only one point above Madonna who scored a 140 but put him well down the chart from the great thinkers like Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein who both scored 160 which is well off the mark of people like Bobby Fischer with a 187 or Kim Ung Yong with a 210, but it does put him in the realm of Steve Martin (actor/comedian) with a 142 or Shakira (singer) who also has a 140 IQ. 🙂

    • Blanger, as per usual, I agree with your points. But, it begs the question: What exactly do we, as voters, expect from our presidents?

      • Easy answer….a savior, problem being is that by the time you reach the political level to be elected POTUS your beholding to so many different factions who got you elected that the common folk always gets sacrificed in the process.

Personally…I’d like someone who is honest and has the good of the people and country in their heart, someone who is willing to give the rest of the world the middle finger and direct 100% of their focus, resources, and effort in solving our problems first before taking on the problems of the rest of the world.

It’s really a complex issue in a lot of ways, no one can be everything that everybody wants so most turn into being someone no one wants….a paradox if you will, everyone has a different opinion of what will solve our problems but few are willing to make any sacrifices, but are quick to ask others to make a sacrifice.

There really is no end to the topic of what we want in a POTUS, as they say different strokes for different folks. 😉

  3. Obviously IQ is important but as stated above it is only a measure of potential. Experience and common horse sense is extremely important. Obama has demonstrated he has neither. A time for change has come! Make a commitment to Vote November 8 for a new direction. We need good paying jobs and a strong economy.

  4. Agree with you guys. Romney used his mind to make money and Obama used his to make himself look good giving speeches. Einstein and Hawking used theirs for science and Martin learned to pick banjo while Shakira shakes a mean booty. As the old commercial says “a mind is a terrible thing to waste”. Obama loves himself too much to work his mind much. He is like John Edwards all dolled up all the time.

  5. IS IT TRUE that not even this news outlet will give Ron Paul a voice in the race, and that he won delegates in Minnesota and Colorado most recently, possibly attributed to the fact Santorum has put his candidacy on hold?
