IS IT TRUE that age and neglect have reportedly taken their toll on the Veterans Memorial Coliseum?…the classic old structure that has seen many a wrestling matches, basketball games and a series of rock and roll concerts in the 1970s and 1980s like our roads, sewers, and sidewalks is making news for the shoddy condition that it has been allowed to creep into?…this list of up and coming rock and roll bands that played at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum were KISS, Golden Earring, Thin Lizzy, The Eagles, Bachman Turner Overdrive, REO Speedwagon, and Dan Fogelberg?…that is just a few of the legends that graced the stage before they became international stars?…even in its poor condition we expect that the Veterans Memorial Coliseum has better financial results on an annualized basis than the Ford Center, the Old National Events Centre, and the Victory Theatre combined or individually?
IS IT TRUEÂ the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Mesker Amphitheater are the two venues that could always be counted on to bring emerging acts to Evansville and now from an entertainment perspective both are dormant?…they were intentionally vanquished to make room for the newer that hasn’t turned out to be better?…the City and the County have spent millions of dollars on temples to, sports, tourism, questionable zoo projects and other less than successful entertainment venues with taxpayer dollars? …the consequences of the infatuation with fun and games projects has resulted in a city of dreams unfulfilled that cannot afford to repair the basic things like sewers, water pipes, and roads?
IS IT TRUE Its time we take a look both the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Mesker Amphitheater and see how we make them once again a major part of our social, cultural and entertainment offerings?
IS IT TRUE the most effective members of the Evansville City Council Finance Committee were  John Friend -CPA and Curt John?

IS IT TRUE that the most effective Vanderburgh City Tax Assessors were Jim Angermier and Cheryl Musgrave?
IS IT TRUE that Tom Ossenburg and Dave Mosby were very good County Commissioners?

Niemeier-Juvenile Judge, Honorable J. Pigman, Honorable Leslie C. Shively, Honorable  Robert  J. Tornatta and Honorable Wayne S. Trackman?
IS IT TRUEÂ Betty Hermann was an outstanding Vanderburgh County Recorder?

A home inspector? They hired a home inspector to perform the review of the Coliseum?
Duh. That is the realm of a Licensed Professional Engineer. What does a home inspector know regarding applicable building codes for commercial structures (and vintage ones at that)? Nope, a Consulting Engineering firm (with licensed PE’s) should have been hired to perform a professional examination of the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural systems. And maybe an Architect to review egress and handicap accessibility requirements.
Sounds like the Commissioners got what they wanted; a quick and dirty job so they can say it’s in bad condition.
In that case, maybe they should have hired Slick Weinzapfel. He had quite a bit of experience blowing smoke about the condition of Roberts Stadium.
The City of Evansville has placed a request for proposals (RFP) in today’s 4-10-2017 in the legals section of the local public record today for the purpose of leasing certain real estate located at 1400 E. Virginia Street in the city.
It would seem that 1400 E. Virginia Street is the address of Oak Hill Cemetery according to the Vanderburgh County Assessor’s Office.

Is it true that Mesker Amphitheater was viewed as a competitor to the shiny new Ford Center, the ONB Events Plaza and the Victory Theater and that is why the City has for years refused to do the basic maintenance and repairs necessary to keep Mesker Amphitheater open? Is it true the same fate may await the Coliseum? Is it true the planned demise of Mesker Amphitheater is black eye on our community and evidence of terrible local governance at all levels?
Not Jim Groute. Jim DeGroote. Honestly…..
Thanks Dog for the update. So corrected.
Thanks for your support and reading the CCO.

Also I watched the commission meeting and I for one found Cheryl musgraves treatment of veteran leader mark Acker shameful. I couldn’t believe it. I hope every vet watched it and remembers it. She tried to lecture him like he was in knee pants
“IS IT TRUE the most effective members of the Evansville City Council Finance Committee were John Friend -CPA and Curt John?”
No idea about Curt John, but John Friend? That man spent every waking minute of the Weinzapfel administration nodding his head ‘yes’ to everything hizzoner said. This was the administration that gave us the Fraud Center and fire trucks which were so poorly maintained they literally had the brakes falling off of them during emergency responses. The fact that Mr. Friend began pretending to be the ‘taxpayer’s friend’ after he had decided not to run for office again (and accordingly didn’t need the approval and support of The Machine) means nothing. When the stakes were high, he consistently looked out for himself, not the citizens of Evansville.
My sentiments about Mr. Friend exactly. I question Ellsworth being ranked alongside Williams and DeGroote, but he’s Mr. Vectren now, so his politician career is over.
