The No. 15-ranked Indiana University women’s swimming and diving team got off to a great start at the 2017 NCAA Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday night.
The Indiana 800 freestyle relay team of Kennedy Goss, Gia Dalesandro, Delaney Barnard and Maria Paula Heitmann earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades by finishing 12th overall with a time of 6:59.91. The time is the fourth-fastest in school history.
Indiana moved up six spots in the event, as the team was seeded No. 18 entering the night. The Hoosiers dominated their heat of the event, winning by over four seconds.
On her leadoff leg, Goss tied her own school record in the 200 freestyle she set in 2015, touching the wall with a terrific leadoff leg of 1:43.37.
The Indiana University women’s swimming and diving team will continue competition at the 2017 NCAA Championships on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. ET with the prelims of the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and the 1-meter dive
