Indiana Dominates Weekly Big Ten Swimming and Diving Honors

The No. 3/11-ranked Indiana University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams dominated the weekly Big Ten honors, the league announced on Wednesday.

The Hoosier men swept all three awards, as Zach Apple was named Swimmer of the Week, Andrew Capobianco was named Diver of the Week and Michael Brinegar was named Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, Jessica Parratto was named Diver of the Week.

Apple was dominant for IU in the team’s win over No. 24-ranked Purdue last Saturday, winning three individual events and one relay. The senior touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle (20.09), 100 freestyle (44.27) and 200 freestyle (1:38.77). Apple also helped Indiana win the men’s 400 freestyle relay in a time of 2:57.23.

Against Purdue last Saturday, Parratto continued her winning ways, taking first in both the women’s 1-meter and platform dives with NCAA Zones qualifying scores. The Dover, N.H. native won the 1-meter with a total of 311.70 and the platform dive with a mark of 316.65.

Capobianco had a career showing in the 1-meter against Purdue, winning with a NCAA Zones qualifying score and personal-best mark of 424.95. The sophomore also recorded a Zones score, placing second in the platform dive with a score of 366.98.

Brinegar continued his stellar freshman season, winning both the men’s 500 freestyle and 1,000 freestyle against the Boilermakers. Brinegar touched the wall with a winning time of 4:26.95 in the 500 free and a mark of 9:07.43 in the 1,000 free.

The No. 3/11 Hoosiers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 1 when the team hosts No. 8/16 Louisville on Senior Day at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. Diving gets underway at 12:15 p.m. ET with swimming starting at 2:00 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on BTN Plus starting at 2:00 p.m. ET.
