Indiana Divers Add Seven Event Bids on Day Two of Zones

MARCH 16, 2024

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana added a sixth diver to its men’s and women’s rosters for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Friday (March 15) at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships inside the Ralph Wright Natatorium on the campus of Louisville University.

Freshman Lily Witte was one of three Hoosier women to earn an NCAA qualifying bid on the 3-meter springboard to clinch her first trip to the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships next week, placing 10th with a 607.95 score – within the top-11 cut. With Friday’s result, Witte also earned her 1-meter bid after finishing within the top 12 on Thursday.

“I am so happy for Lily!” IU head diving coach Drew Johansen said. “She was in a battle all day and delivered on her last dive to punch her ticket.”

Senior Anne Fowler was the women’s top qualifier for the second-straight day, scoring 691.20 points, and junior Skyler Liu placed fifth with 644.85. Both have qualified for the national meet on each springboard.

Freshman Ella Roselli just missed the top-11 cut, placing 12th. However, Roselli is still eligible to qualify in all three events, having finished top 12 on each board. The Zone C cutline for Saturday’s platform competition will advance the top 11. Junior Morgan Casey finished 15th with a 536.25.

Like Fowler, junior Carson Tyler repeated as the men’s top qualifier with a score of 756.35. Fellow junior Quinn Henninger was fifth with a 710.50. Maxwell Weinrich placed ninth with a 640.35, missing the top-seven cut but qualifying in his second event as a top-12 finisher. All three Hoosier men have qualified on both springboards.

“The three boys were solid and added another event to their championships program,” Johansen said. “We are looking forward to the platform event tomorrow.”
