The Indiana Arts Commission will tour “Arts Region 10” of the state, made up of Knox, Daviess, Gibson, Pike, Dubois, Perry, Spencer, Warrick, Posey and Vanderburgh counties. Arts Commission staff will visit arts and cultural organizations, grant recipients and individual artists to learn about the unique opportunities and challenges facing the creative sector in Southwest Indiana.
The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, which serves as the Indiana Arts Commission’s Regional Art Partner, is coordinating and hosting the tour, which also includes “Art Cafe” information sessions for those interested in learning more about the Indiana Arts Commission and a public town hall meeting about the arts.
The Creative Indiana Town Hall features a presentation by regional musician Theophilus Akai, a Ghanaian immigrant, musician and teacher. Akai will share his experience introducing global cultures in Southwest Indiana as a musician. Following Akai’s talk, Leadership Everyone will lead participants in a high-energy town hall-style conversation about how the region can grow the arts in local communities, regions and statewide. The Creative Indiana Town Hall is Thursday 4:30-6:30 p.m. (CDT) at the Sauced Ballroom, 1119 Parrett St. in Evansville.
As part of the arts commission’s visit, Evansville will host the statewide meeting of Regional Arts Partners, as well as the Quarterly Business Meeting of Governor-appointed Indiana Arts Commission Commissioners.
The Indiana Arts Commission will visit businesses and creative spaces in New Harmony, Wadesville, Jasper, Washington, Vincennes and Evansville.

About the Indiana Arts Commission: The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) is an agency of State Government funded by the Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
The IAC consists of 15 gubernatorial appointments who establish the agency’s policies and goals, plan its direction for the future, and approve all grant awards and programs. The commissioners serve up to eight years, without compensation. They are selected to represent various areas of the state and diverse arts, business and community backgrounds.
The commissioners hire an executive director to administer the agency and implement
the strategic plan. IAC staff provide advice and counsel, develop and administer the grants making process, recruit and train panelists, maintain a website, develop and disseminate publications and other information, and convene groups to assist in issue identification and research.
