The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team took to the green competing in the Buccaneer Spring Classic hosted by Christian Brothers University, finishing third out of the six-team field. The tournament was hosted at the Germantown Country Club with a par of 72.
Senior Taylor Howerton (Evansville, Indiana) led the way for the Eagles with a plus-fourteen over par going 77 and 81 in the first two days of the three-day event. Howerton rounded out her performance with a round-low score of 72 on the third day to a total of 230 in a tie for third-place.
Sophomore Abbey Leighty (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) followed up with a plus-29 effort with a 245 (80-82-83) good enough for 13th place. Freshman Brooke Moser (Leo, Indiana) finished 16th with a 251 (86-83-82), plus-35 over par. Freshman Kiley Swisher (Williamsport, Indiana) rounded out scoring for USI in 27th place, plus-51 over par with a final tally of 267 (98-82-87).
Rollins College won the event with a plus-58 team score of 922 (307-313-302) with Saint Leo University coming in second in 925 (310-306-309). USI finished third with a final score of 981 (329-329-323), just ahead of Drury University, Southwestern Christian University and host Christian Brothers who round out the team standings.
The Eagles will return on March 24-25 in Perry Park, Kentucky for the Perry Park Spring Fling hosted by Lewis University.
