House of Champions next up for UE swimming and diving

The University of Evansville swimming and diving teams are back in action this weekend as the squads make their way to Indianapolis for the House of Champions.

 

One of the largest meets in the Midwest in the fall features an abundance of schools including: IUPUI, Green Bay, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, the University of Indianapolis, Lewis, Ballarmine and Centre.  Indiana University and Kentucky will also be at the meet for the diving portion.

 

IUPUI is the host of the event, which features prelims in the morning each day with the finals taking place at night.  Prelims each day begin at 10:30 a.m. ET while the finals on Friday and Saturday begin at 6 p.m. ET with Sunday’s finals starting at 5 p.m.  Live results all weekend will be available on Meet Mobile.

 

Last time out for the men, they defeated Eastern Illinois three weeks ago at Wyttenbach Pool.  Senior Ethan O’Rouke claimed three victories in the Purple Aces 188-99 victory over EIU and was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week for his performances. Along with three of his teammates, O’Rourke helped the Aces win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.50, 2.31 seconds ahead of second place. His best performance came in the 200 back as his finish of 1:56.76 was over 8 seconds better than anyone else. He also took top honors in the 100 back with a time of 52.16.

 

Two weeks ago, the women were edged out by Arkansas Little Rock.  Courtney Coverdale was once again the top performer on the boards.  She took the top spot in the 1-meter with her score of 276.37 while her tally of 236.17 was the best score in the 1-meter dive.  Michaela Kent had a solid meet once again.  Her time of 53.62 gave her the win in the 100 free gave her the win by just 0.17 ticks.  In the 50 free, she was victorious once again, taking the win by over a second with a time of 24.71.

 

Taking the win in the 500 free was Maja Magnusson.  Her performance was one of the tops on the team on the day as she won by over six seconds with her 5:24.70.  Amy Smith took top honors in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 1:09.53 to win by 0.7 seconds.
