May 10, 1933 After serving a 9 ½ year sentence for robbing a grocery store, John Dillinger was released from the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. He embarked upon a series of bank robberies and jail breaks until July of 1934, when he was killed by the FBI in Chicago. |

May 11, 1852 Charles W. Fairbanks was born in a log cabin in Ohio. As a young man he moved to Indiana to practice law. He served as U.S. Senator and, in 1904, was elected Vice-President of the United States to serve under Theodore Roosevelt.
