June 29, 1816 The first Indiana State Constitution was adopted by the legislature in Corydon.
July 1, 1896 William F. Walker was born in Pendleton. The son of a freed slave, he became a popular actor whose career spanned 40 years in scores of movies, including “To Kill A Mockingbird.”
July 2, 1937 The last radio contact was made by Amelia Earhart, flying a twin-engine Lockheed Electra airplane owned by Purdue University.
July 4, 1916 McCormick’s Creek was dedicated as Indiana’s first state park. It was named for John McCormick, an early settler who had lived along the canyon by the waterfalls.
