Homeless Bill Heads To Senate

INDIANAPOLIS – An Indiana Senate committee approved a measure on Thursday that would require township trustees to place homeless residents in county homes or give them township assistance.

Senate Bill 67 was approved by the Senate Local Government Committee, 8-1. Sen. Dennis Kruse, R-Auburn, was the only committee member to vote against the bill. Kruse said he was concerned about smaller townships.

Ben Jackson, township trustee from Columbus, Indiana, said all township trustees should work together to compile a list of all available resources for the homeless that includes both public and private sources of help.

The bill now moves to the full Senate.

  1. Trustees are basically one of the most expensive elements of the social services industry. Less than 5 cents of every dollar going to social services actually gets to those in need, the rest is used up in the process. The real work gets done best and cost almost nothing is done by the faith based. The Salvation Army and Evansville Rescue Mission do the heavy lifting. Ever notice that as an area becomes more democrat heavy, crime, homelessness, drugs, blight and flight from the city increases. Democrats are the core rot of communities. People that move out of Evansville to adjoining areas need to remember why they moved and vote conservative.
