TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—Junior Zach Hamilton (Martinsville, Indiana) broke a 13-year old record and junior Madison King (Avon, Indiana) scored a first-place finish Saturday as University of Southern Indiana Men’s Track & Field finished sixth at the Gibson Invitational.
Hamilton broke the Screaming Eagles’ record in the 100 meters as he finished fifth in the finals with a time of 10.59 seconds. Tom Cunningham set the previous record of 10.72 seconds at the 2009 Washington Invitational. Hamilton also helped USI’s 4×100-meter relay team to a sixth-place finish, while King helped USI’s 4×400-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish.
King finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.21, marking his second 800-meter win of the outdoor season.
In addition to King, Hamilton and the 4×400-meter relay, the Eagles recorded eight top-five finishes. Freshman Brady Terry (Philpot, Kentucky) was third in the 1,500 meters, while freshman Dylan Bland (Holland, Indiana) and juniors Will Sims (Camby, Indiana) and Nick Dombroski(Noblesville, Indiana) were third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Junior Kyle Crone (Maryville, Illinois) rounded out the Eagles’ top performers with a fifth-place showing in the triple jump.
USI returns to action April 29-30 when it competes at the Davenport Invitational in Caledonia, Michigan.
