About Habitat for Humanity of Evansville

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Evansville brings people together to build homes, communities and hope in Vanderburgh and Posey counties. Founded in 1984, we put faith into action by helping to build, renovate or preserve homes. By partnering with the local community, we are able to accelerate and broaden access to affordable housing as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. To be eligible, families must have incomes at or below 60 percent of the area median income. They must have a need for housing, be willing to contribute 300 hours in sweat equity and have the ability to pay their mortgage based on a 25-year, no-interest loan. 1. And to think that they did it without federal government largesse.

If you combine need, desire, willingness to work, contributions of fellow corporate and private citizens without government coercion, there is still pride left in the poorest among us.

Congratulations to Habitat and its homeowners.

This $1 million is just the beginning of the revolving fund which will fund many more Habitat homes. Much more worthwhile than the “FRONT DOOR PRIDE” debacles.
