On Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 4:20am the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Crown Ridge subdivision near N. Green River Road and Kansas Road upon report of an attempted vehicle break-in.

The homeowner had captured video of several suspects attempting to gain entry to his vehicle, as well as video of the suspect’s vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle matching the appearance of the suspect vehicle in a neighboring subdivision. Three suspects were located in the vehicle and a fourth suspect was located on a motorized scooter in the area.

During the course of the investigation deputies discovered that the group had entered numerous vehicles and stolen items from both vehicles and attached garages. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old Marquaill Ke Juann Harvey and three juveniles ages 16, 17 and 17. Mr. Harvey was lodged at the Vanderburgh County Jail and the juveniles were lodged at the Youth Care Center.

The Sheriff’s Office offers these tips to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of a vehicle break in:

  • Unsecure firearms, medication and money should never be kept in the vehicle when not occupied.
  • Avoid leaving valuables inside a vehicle, but if necessary secure these items in a locked glove box or trunk.
  • Never leave your car unlocked, not even in your driveway.
  • Park in a well lit area or under a motion activated light.
  • If you park outside, do not store a garage door opener in your vehicle. If your vehicle is broken into, the thief now has access to your garage and house.

Many people do not report these types of thefts believing that nothing can be done. The Sheriff’s Office strongly encourages anyone who is the victim of a crime to report it. If you believe your vehicle has been entered and items taken please do not touch anything on or inside the car. If you locate items from your vehicle somewhere else such as on the ground, again refrain from touching them. Call 911 and the responding deputies can assess the possibility of recovering evidence.
