Four current and former Indiana men’s swimmers competed in the opening night of the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships at the Georgia Tech McAuley Aquatic Center on Wednesday evening.

Men’s 800 freestyle
- Zane Grothe – 7:51.53
- Michael Brinegar – 7:59.37
- Mikey Calvillo – 8:04.68
- Marwan El Kamash – 8:05.09
NOTABLES
- Grothe easily cruised to the wall under the US Olympic Trial cut time of 8:12.99 in the 800 freestyle. He and Brinegar, a redshirt for the Hoosiers this season, were two of the nine swimmers to clear the eight-minute mark in the event.
- A total of 76 swimmers competed in the event. The four with IU affiliation all fell inside the top-20 in the final results.

Day two of the Toyota U.S. Open Championships will begin tomorrow, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. with the preliminary heats of the 400 freestyle. A total of 13 current and former Indiana swimmers will be in action tomorrow.
