Indianapolis – Today, Governor Mike Pence and First Lady Karen Pence celebrated opening day of the 2016 Indiana State Fair, commemorating the state’s bicentennial.
“The First Lady and I are thankful to join Hoosiers from across our state to celebrate the opening of the 160th Indiana State Fair,†said Governor Mike Pence. “I can think of no better way to celebrate our state’s 200th birthday and our shared Hoosier heritage than at the Fair. Whether you make a living on the farm or you simply come to learn more about agriculture, this is a great way to celebrate all that makes us uniquely Hoosier. What we make and what we grow is at the heart of our economy and who we are as a people, and I encourage all Hoosiers to stop by the Indiana State Fair and experience this great Hoosier tradition.â€
The Governor offered remarks at the Opening Ceremony of the Fair, unveiled Visit Indiana’s Indiana Bicentennial Experience traveling exhibit, toured the First Lady’s 16-print watercolor exhibition at the Indiana Arts Building, met with 4-H members at the Cattle Barn, and handed out free milkshakes to fairgoers at the American Dairy Association of Indiana’s Dairy Bar. Along the way, the Governor and First Lady visited with Hoosier Fair attendees.
The Fair runs for seventeen days, from August 5-21. For more information about the Indiana State Fair, including events, programming, tickets and discounts, visit http://www.indianastatefair.com/.
