The event will feature free gifts for the first 3,000 people through the door; free hot dogs, popcorn and soda; a special birthday cake; the building’s first ever Open Skate from 2-3:30 PM on the arena’s ice; representation from the Evansville IceMen hockey team and the University of Evansville Purple Aces; a variety of activities for all ages; prize drawings; and remote broadcasts by a number of local radio stations. “We want to thank Evansville and the entire Tri-State area for their support of the Ford Center during its opening year,” states Executive Director Scott Schoenike. “We’re looking forward to celebrating with our guests not only on Sunday, but throughout the upcoming event season. We are excited for a busy second year of operation.”
The Ford Center, located in downtown Evansville, opened in November 2011 and is owned by the City of Evansville. The 10,000 seat facility is home to University of Evansville Division I Men’s and Women’s basketball programs and the East Coast Hockey League Icemen franchise.
