On May 20, 2021, around 5:50 p.m., the Evansville Police Department was called to the area of E.Riverside Dr. and Shadewood Ave. for a report of shots being fired. Officers arrived and were told that several
people had been shot. The victims were found at the scene and in a car nearby. All four were taken to local
hospitals for treatment. The extent of the victims’ injuries, their conditions, and their names are currently
unavailable.
Based on witness statements, police believe the incident began as a fight between two people.Additional people joined in the altercation before one of the participants was struck with a baseball bat. In
response to the use of a baseball bat as an impact weapon, another man armed himself with a handgun and fired
several rounds in the direction of the man with the bat. Four people, including the intended target, were shot.The man who fired the gun returned to the scene to speak with investigators and fully cooperated. The gun
believed to have been fired during this incident has been recovered by police. Police do not believe anyone else
fired a gun during the incident. A bat that police believe was used during the incident was also located at the scene.
The investigation into this incident is on-going and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
