    Dear Customer,

You recently received a letter from the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility regarding the city-wide installation of new water meters. During the inspection process, the Utility identified an issue requiring attention or needing repair on your property. The letter stated that the issue or repair needed to be addressed within 30 days to maintain water service. Please understand that the Water Utility will not shut off your water if repairs are not completed within that timeframe.

As a next step, the Utility will conduct an independent re-inspection to validate, document in more detail and photograph the issues found, and determine if the meter change can be accomplished without any repairs to your water lines or pit. Once the re-inspection is complete, we will contact property owners to present findings and determine next steps based on the severity of the issue.

The timing of when repairs are made is up to you unless your water meter is covered or blocked, or if the meter pit is broken, prohibiting meter reading. Please address those issues in a timely manner.

You do not need to sign the Waiver of Liability Form that was included with the original repair notification letter. If you have already signed and returned a Waiver of Liability Form to the Utility, we will disregard the Waiver, and the Utility’s contractor will not replace the Utility’s water meter if there is a risk of damage to your water lines or meter pit.

If you have already made repairs to the issue identified, please contact the Utility’s customer service – (812) 436-7846 or EWSUcustomerservice@ewsu.com – to report action has been taken so it can be documented and appropriate next steps can be made. The City and Utility are looking into solutions that could assist customers in making repairs.

We appreciate your patience with this massive and important project to move the city forward with accurate, modernized and wireless meter reading infrastructure. The advantages of the enhanced meter upgrade include standardized meters across the system and real-time water usage information for customers. The American Water Works Association recommends water utilities test customer meters every 10 years. This city-wide effort ensures all meters in our system are inspected.

Again, the Utility will not shut off customers’ water for corrective issues related to replacing meters. We value you as a customer and regret the tone of the previous letter you received. We will follow up soon with more information.

    Sincerely,

    Allen Mounts Director

    1. Yes, what is simply unacceptable behavior is fact that the Utility Dept agreed to $250,000 to supposedly reimburse the Utility for expenses caused by Johnson Controls. What about those suckers who believed that they had issues with the PIT and now should know they have been duped….this JCI contract was flawed from the beginning, signed on November 17, 2011 and those who were members of the Utility Board at that time, should do the honorable thing and resign…of course, we have Labor represented on that Board and if you recall during the last CC meeting, who was in front of the Council, oh, yes, a union plumber….and get this, when customers called down to the utility asking who they should call for those bogus repairs they were referring Hydromax. So, let’s damage the PIT, so the union plumber can get more OT?…what a crock…Hollywood could not write a script better then this….only in Gothemville???

      • Surely, you can not be serious….maybe review of Winnecke’s next campaign donation report might reveal motives…apparently, between the crony capitalist and Union Labor, the ratepayer and duped homeowner may have less for Christmas this year….Taxpayers and Ratepayer, the coffee is brewin,,,,,

      • These meters are nothing but payback for union support in defeating Rick Davis for mayor. 50 million dollars sucked out of the tax payers pockets so Winnecke could be mayor is just sick, plus I’m sure weinzapfel and friends got something out of this deal. The unions are like the plaque only slower, they kill everything they touch. I won’t even drink a free beer if it’s union made.

      • Is it not true that Hydromax is a non-union company as mention by another poster?

    2. From the CYA letter above:

“The advantages of the enhanced meter upgrade include standardized meters across the system and REAL-TIME WATER USAGE INFORMATION for customers.” (Capitalization is mine.)

Does this mean if I suspect I have a water leak on my side of the meter, I can call the Water Dept. and they can tell me the exact amount of water used since the last reading on my bill? Could I check a day or two later to see if the problem has been solved, or must I wait until the end of the billing cycle to get a reading?

Who is going to reimburse people who jumped in and paid someone to check out their outside plumbing at the meter or made potentially unneeded repairs or repairs due to the negligence of Hydromax?

When will the City Council learn not to believe everything presented to them as “manna from heaven” and do the reading, research and evaluation of the facts and figures? I wonder if they would buy a car with as little rational doubt as they swallow the sales pitches made in their meetings.

      • In the C&P a little over a week ago. It was mention that a hourly signal is sent. A leak takes three days to be detected by the meter vrs. having to wait for your monthly bill to realize a leak. This is the only feature I like about this meter. But again, the odds are small, that a person would ever have a leak on your side of the meter.
