Five University of Southern Indiana Men’s and Women’s Track & Field student-athletes were honored with U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association All-Midwest Region accolades Monday afternoon.
The Screaming Eagles collected a total of nine All-Region awards, with senior Johnnie Guy (Palmyra, Indiana) and junior Chase Broughton (Marengo, Indiana) collecting a combined six awards.
Guy earned All-Region honors in the mile, the 3,000 meters, the 5,000 meters, and the distance medley relay, while Broughton garnered All-Region recognition for his efforts in the mile and the distance medley relay.
Sophomore Jesse Stanley (Chandler, Indiana) and freshman DeAvion Sullivan (Evansville, Indiana) joined Broughton and Guy in earning All-Region honors in the distance medley relay; while sophomore Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio) earned All-Region honors in the women’s 5,000 meters.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions’ top three relay teams.
Guy ranks first in the Midwest Region in the 3,000 meters, second in the 5,000 meters, and second in the mile. Broughton ranks fourth in the Midwest Region in the mile, while Roberts ranks fourth in the 5,000 meters.
USI’s distance medley relay team ranks first in the region and eighth, nationally, after winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference title Saturday night.
Guy was one of seven men’s competitors to earn All-Region honors in four events and one 24 competitors amongst both genders. Only Salcia Slack of New Mexico Highland University, Emily Oren of Hillsdale, and Carly Muscaro of Merrimack University earned All-Region honors in more events. Slack topped the women’s All-Region honorees with six, while Oren and Muscaro had each five awards.
The Eagles will learn their NCAA Division II Indoor Championship fate Wednesday when the final declarations are announced. Guy is a lock in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, while Roberts is a lock in the 5,000 meters. USI’s DMR also is a lock to advance to nationals, while junior Josh Guy (Palmyra, Indiana) is on the bubble for the 5,000 meters.
