First Sergeant Trevor Helmer Reassigned to Evansville Post as District Investigative Commander

On Sunday, June 19, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter reassigned First Sergeant Trevor Helmer to serve as the District Investigative Commander for the Jasper Post.

Helmer is a native of Evansville and a 1987 graduate of F.J. Reitz High School. He later attended Purdue University where he received a degree in Political Science and Law in Society. Helmer began his career in law enforcement in 1990 as a police officer with Purdue University Police.

Helmer graduated from Indiana State Police Academy in 1995 and was assigned to the Evansville District to primarily patrol Gibson County. Helmer transferred to the Jasper District in 1997, where he primarily patrolled Dubois County. In 2003, Helmer was promoted to the rank of Sergeant to serve as a district squad leader at the Evansville Post. Helmer was reassigned to the Jasper Post in 2012 as the Investigative Squad Leader until 2013, when he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and was assigned as the District Investigative Commander of the Jasper Post.

Helmer served on the ISP SCUBA team from 1999 to 2006 and on the Emergency Response Team from 2006 to 2009. His new job responsibilities will be identical to his current assignment.

First Sergeant Helmer and his wife, Tracy, reside in Newburgh with their two sons.
